Negligent cop resonse containment thread: all criticism of cops in Uvalde goes here

We don't need to amend it, we need to adhere to what it actually says. This kid was not part of a well regulated militia.
That’s as stupid as the hunting argument.
You don’t have to be in the militia to own a gun. That’s not what it says. It says that to maintain a well regulated militia my rights to have firearms can’t be restricted. That means that dumbasses can’t keep me from buying firearms so that if it becomes necessary to form/join a militia I’m ready to do so.
If you don’t like it that amend the 2A.

So no completely incorrect. And you mentally challenged gun grabbers always try to play this. The “militia” are just the people. They aren’t subordinate to any governmental oversight. Period full stop. With the application of “well regulated” to militia they are stating if you own a firearm you should be well versed in maintaining it and using it. That’s it. In case your are needed to assist the Feds in defending the country… or as the founding fathers had just done assist in defending the country by casting the Feds out.

Justice Antonin Scalia wrote the Heller majority opinion. “The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home,” Scalia said.

What did it mean to be well regulated?
One of the biggest challenges in interpreting a centuries-old document is that the meanings of words change or diverge.

"Well-regulated in the 18th century tended to be something like well-organized, well-armed, well-disciplined," says Rakove. "It didn't mean 'regulation' in the sense that we use it now, in that it's not about the regulatory state. There's been nuance there. It means the militia was
in an effective shape to fight."

In other words, it didn't mean the state was controlling the militia in a certain way, but rather that the militia was prepared to do its duty

Police inaction moves to center of Uvalde shooting probe

As the gunman fired at students, law enforcement officers from other agencies urged the school police chief to let them move in because children were in danger, two law enforcement officials said.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they had not been authorized to talk publicly about the investigation.

One of the officials said audio recordings from the scene capture officers from other agencies telling the school police chief that the shooter was still active and that the priority was to stop him. But it wasn’t clear why the school chief ignored their warnings.

Distraction.

Gun access is the issue.

Investigators question delayed police response in Texas school shooting

Investigators question delayed police response in Texas school shooting

Investigators in Texas were seeking to determine on Saturday how critical mistakes were made in the response to the deadly Uvalde shooting, including why nearly 20 police officers remained outside a grade school classroom as children placed panicked 911 calls for help.

Why the officers waited in the hallway nearly an hour before entering and fatally shooting the gunman is at the heart of an ongoing probe by the Texas Department of Public Safety into the massacre of 19 children and two teachers in the deadliest U.S. school shooting in nearly a decade.

It's weird how some people pretend to care and want to solve the problem, but ignore the root of the problem, choosing instead to blame an inanimate object rather than the crazy ass person who went on a rampage. It's almost as if they really don't care.

Irrelevant
Not at all.

If we allow the government to start grabbing guns, they won't stop at "assault rifles" because that won't solve the problem. Most shootings are done with handguns, so they'll use that to go for those next. Eventually we'll end up where only criminals have guns. But I'm in no way surprised that's the society you'd prefer to live in.

The mentally ill/weak will continue to go on rampages.

That's because they don't care. They're just waiting for the next tragedy so they can push their agenda again.
