She's saving face due to outside political pressure. If you thought for one second she'd side with the Defense on anything that would be beneficial to them and helping Zimmerman get off then I don't know what to tell you. Zimmerman has defended himself against the charge of second degree murder. Now the judge says - OK we’ll just charge you with manslaughter or aggravated assault. Doesn’t this involve more/different defense on the part of Zimmerman?

Oh, no. Jury instructions and verdict forms are heavily fought over before submission of the case to the jury. I've had civil cases where we spent an entire day arguing over and composing them.
