Zimmerman Trial

Judges allow prosecutors to use evidence from computers which are not even password protected, to convict defendants. How can a judge disallow evidence in an encrypted app for evidence by a defense? Martin's physical fighting abilities are crucial to the defense. Having lived and worked in the Broward/Dade county area, I can guarantee one thing; if there are a hundred of Trayvon Martin's associates and classmates who know about his fighting, not one of them will testify for the defense. High school kids down there live by prison rules.

Even then, I can pick up your phone and put that same disclaimer in. Saying "it's me" on a text message doesn't prove anything. Nelson's logic doesn't allow for the electronic communication of any deceased person to be admitted, because there is no way to effectively authenticate the communication to her standards. Even if the person on the other end testified, that person can't possibly know it was actually his or her friend on the other end.

If two levels of password protection and a writing style consistent with every other message on that phone isn't enough, then there is no "enough" without holding a seance.

Good points. If encrypting the messages isn't a means to authenticate the messages, then there is no possible way to do it short of asking the sender directly.

If that video doesn't make you cringe then nothing will. Absolute joke that someone like this is a judge.

The more I learn from this trial, the worse I feel for Zimmerman. Everyone in authority already knew from the evidence that the guy acted in self defense and yet they are patting themselves on the back while playing with this guy's life.

Point is that the youngster knew why he was being watched and decided to play outlaw. It is a tragedy, but people should not think that he died because somebody decided to murder him. He died because he assaulted somebody who happened to be armed.

People who want to feel picked on find a way to get picked on.

Every time I see the video of this judge makes me think she should be kicked off the bench and removed from her position immediately.

I couldn't agree more. Either she's a total fool or she has her own agenda. If Zimmerman is found guilty, people should protest outside her home.

I saw this posted and thought it could be interesting. Take the author of the blog with a grain of salt, but if any of this info about Trayvon talking with his dad, Tracy Martin, about buying a gun then wow, just wow.

Trayvon Martin’s Own Father Was One of The people texting Trayvon about buying and selling guns – Researching the Names From Don West Delivered Proffer Hearing…. (multiple francining moments) | The Last Refuge

It appears his dad is a thug too.

Doesn't that set precedence that any electronic exchanges can't be used because they "can't authenticate" the sender? That would destroy tons of cases.

I'm not a lawyer but as a random person that seems like the case.

I haven't followed much but this past few days has gotten me riled up. We've got a state-sponsored witch hunt violating a man who is probably innocent of murder because the state caved to pressure from a community of people who are uncomfortable with the fact that the dumbass that got killed reinforced every terrible stereotype about his race. It's ridiculous.

At least in her court room. This judge has been very bias. IF GZ is found guilty by the jury. If I was an appeals court I would throw this out the next day and say that they can never retry the case. With prosecution hiding evidence and this judges actions. This is atrocious.

It does create new case law. But another, more intelligent judge will probably reverse the case law later. Hopefully it won't have to be the judge in Zimmerman's appeal.

Thanks for the explanation. To me I couldn't imagine how many lawyers watching this trial with clients in jail in Florida who were salvating at that ruling ready to appeal for there client based on that ruling.

I take it you didn't check out the last part of the trial. Trayvon was no kid. He was a young man that had a history of fighting and wanted to hurt people. Don't believe me, then read what Trayvon himself had to say about it.

There should be NO more talking about Trayvon like he was a damn kid. Read his texts about how he talks about beating people on the ground MMA style just like what he did to Zimmerman.

There should be NO ONE at this point that thinks Zimmerman is guilty. It is clear Trayvon was a thug and this was nothing but a political show trial.

For anyone that blames Zimmerman for anything, then I have to wonder if you also blame rape victims. It is sick to try and justify Trayvon attacking Zimmerman because he thought he was being followed - it's just wrong on so many levels. We can't tell our children that Trayvon's response was appropriate and anyone that does should be ashamed.

Tonight's trial ending was an embarrassment to our legal system and Zimmerman's constitutional rights have been violated.

Here's a legal blog summarizing what happened tonight: Trayvon Martin | Text messages | cell phone photos

You're not understanding me. Everyone's so wrapped up in this case (like the media wants us to be... it's funny that this thread already broke 1k responses) and certain words and phrases have attached themselves to it.

So again, when I say "dumb kid," I don't mean an innocent child that doesn't know any better. I mean he was a 17 year-old who made the stupid decision to confront a man who should have stayed in his vehicle.

Neither party did the right thing here.

I call 21 year-old college students "dumb kids." It's not so much a physical thing as it is mental.

Don't worry fellas, trial court judges make bad rulings often.(Haha, I read that back and realize that may worry some people but it's true). This decision doesn't create any binding authority on any other courts. At most it would be persuasive authority, but I find it extremely unlikely that other Florida judges would find her ruling persuasive at all to anything.

I gotcha. I didn't mean to direct my rage response at you and meant it more for people that keep referring to him as this child and blaming Zimmerman for getting attacked. I should have said that last night in my response, but I was pretty upset and must have forgot. Sorry for the confusion.
