Ziegler > Gillespie

Ziegler played with heart and fire.

A true leader and an ambassador for Tennessee basketball.

Gillespie looks like he’s just out there playing for a paycheck.

His effort in the final minutes was very poor.
ZZ was a spark in all phases of the game. His control of the offense was only exceeded by his excellency on defense. He learned things on the New York streets that can not be taught.

I like G but I love Z.

I think JG is really good. Wish we had him for 4 years too. But that’s a really hard act to follow. I’m 100% more disappointed in our bigs so far this season. I think we can go to FF with JG/Boswell backcourt.

ZZ was the defensive floor general. JG has never been the floor general at any point of his career. Last year was Derrick Queen’s team at Maryland. JG was just a compliment starter.

I believe if Barnes had him all four years, he would be an NBA lock.

This is kind of laughable. All great additions. Chaz Lanier broke a UT record.
I think Gillespie would look a lot different if we had a legit two guard. Or, if we had a PG and could move him to the two.

If Gillespie had an Lanier or a Knecht? Mercy. Or, if he has a ZZ and could play off ball.

Gillespie isn't a 2 guard. He isn't a pure shooter, and much of his offense depends on the dribble-drive. Not sure why it gets repeated so often that he needs to be a shooting guard. He was the point guard at Belmont, and at Maryland. His game isn't the same as Chris Lofton.

He's certainly not the pure shooter that Lofton was, but he's still a pretty damn good shooter of the ball. He has a really nice stroke

He had Rodney Rice at the 2G last year and we should have him this year.

we were spoiled by zz and the help he had. JG doesn’t have a knecht or Chaz to pass and get an assist in a 25 foot bomb and hasn’t been here long.
Zz avgd 14/7 his senior year. JG is at 20/6 without being here 3 years prior to develop. He’s done fine. People are crazy. Comparing the two anyway is silly as their roles are entirely different on offense.
But here for just a paycheck at 20/6 a game? Whatever. People are clueless. Too many.

I agree with you 100%. Great post!

ZZ and Mashack stayed here 4 years, in the beginning of the transfer portal era. Both players are universally loved, but JG is playing his a$$ off and doing everything he can to have the team success that ZZ and JM had. I think the Vols may be peaking at the right, we will see, tonight. JG is still an all-SEC player, I'll guarantee it, maybe not 1st team, but still, impressive

It’s very hard to compare the 2 seeing as they r much different players. But I think JG is the more indispensable player for his team. Not necessarily saying he’s better, but this team needs him more than years past needed zeigler. Although that prob says more about the roster construction than the player.
