I've got my doubts about Heupel but I am reasonably excited to see UT catch up with the modern game on offense.

And he seems like a nice guy. Not that it will help win games but at least he isn't acting like an arrogant a hole like Pruitt or Jones.

It feels like a weight off our collective shoulders dumping Beldar the Cornbreadian and Fulmer to me.

Pruitt was the most loathsome, miserable coach that has come through Knoxville since Kevin O'Neill IMO.

That is what 10+ yrs of knowing what kind of program we should be and could have been and seeing the higher ups and donors thinking they can find a top tier coach at the dollar store will do. It's another unproven coach at a g5 school that we hired hoping to get us off the mat. I hope he does good but it's like whatever I'm not getting my hopes up or going to make an effort to go/watch games again.

Don’t forget that the last two seasons UCF pretty much had backup qbs. Everyone wants to talk about the losses but nobody wants to talk about how he did it with second string guys. Their yardage and points were solid. For a Tennessee team that couldn’t score and their starting qb couldn’t get out of his own way, being thankful that we will have some offense in the future isn’ta bad place to be. Maybe it’s just.... that we’ve been treated like mushrooms the last decade and we finally have a ball coach?

Well that's not true in the slightest:

Mack was one of four quarterbacks competing for the starting job in the fall along with Notre Dame transfer Brandon Wimbush, redshirt freshman Quadry Jones and true freshman Dillon Gabriel...The three-star prospect from Hawaii who spurned offers from Georgia and USC is the first freshman quarterback signed by Heupel and his staff. Gabriel wrapped up a stellar prep career with a state-record 9,848 passing yards and 105 touchdowns.

A Coronation: Dillon Gabriel Leaves No Doubt Who Should Be UCF’s Starting QB

So qb breaks his ankle and first string qv takes his place? Let me see that doesn’t add up. Yes there were people in waiting but they played 2 seasons with their second string and last year had 10 opt outs and still only lost in one possession games.

He was Heupel's hand picked QB, who'd turned down offers from USC and Georgia. He was in a QB competition from the day he stepped on campus in January, and there was no definite starter even when Mack was injured in the summer. Then Gabriel came out in the season opener and claimed the starting position over Wimbush and Jones.

He was literally never "the backup", and to beat it all Mack entered the transfer portal in November when he saw the writing on the wall, followed a month later by McKenzie Milton.

I don't really give two sh*t's how he makes me feel. If he can put a solid team on the field then I could care less how I feel about him. Honestly most of us felt like Pruitt could get the job done. He was an X's and O's guy. Unfortunately he came in with the wrong attitude. He basically told our fans and players that what we had in the locker room currently wasn't any good. You tell me how as a player you can go to battle with a guy that feels like you suck? The product on the field showed. I get it some coaches are motivators and some aren't. Unfortunately UT needs someone to motivate and build.

Ok so Milton goes down, the second string qb Mack took his place. Mack goes down and a freshman steps in and takes over the job that Milton should have had for TWO years. Again, they never had their first string experienced qb on the field. As much as I’m a fan of Bailey you see his lack of experience this year. UCF was not running full strength the last several years. Facts man. You can spin it however you’d like but the fact remains that their qb situation wasn’t optimal the last several years. Heupel did a decent job with what he had. Be grateful man. Quit looking for the negative because that’s all you’ll continue to find. Look for the positive.

There's nothing that says the Gabriel wouldn't have beaten out either or both, and they both transferred rather than stay and compete against Gabriel for the starting spot in 2021.

He was in the mix for the starting position from his first day on campus, and he was the only QB on the roster that was actually recruited by Heupel.

You are trying to make it out like UCF had no choice but to start Will McBride as their QB.

Heupel WILL NOT provide you drama queens with ammunition. Many of you are so used to constant upheaval, that you don't recognize calm and integrity. He has put his head down, and gone to work. No tricky flowery talk. No fancy slogans. Just hard work. The results (in time) will show up on game day.

My guess is that it has little to do with JH and a lot to do with apathy for UT football. Heupel is a decent hire, if he can show steady, marked improvement then the collective morale of UT fans will also show steady marked improvement.
