You think hiring a proven HC doesn't matter?

If I remember correctly Currie was called back by Davenport when it was learned he was speaking with Leach. Leach sued his former employers and that is why the UT administration wanted no part of Leach as a head coach at UT. I personally believe Leach would have been a good coach here with his high scoring offense even though the defense may have be suspect. He is funny as hell during his press conferences.

Yea, that seems to make the most sense of why he is stuck at WSU. Currie going off the grid on UT after he butchered the entire search is why he was called in. He was Haslam's fall guy and the faction vying for power against the Haslam's took advantage of the opportunity. And I am glad they did. Even if we had to sacrifice Leach for Pruitt, delivering a blow to the Haslam gripe of the U is worth it in the long run imo.

Two bowl wins. Do you think UT has an inherent right to win Sec and National Championships to have a successful season ? I would like Tennessee to have a top 10 program every year since the 98 championship and am disappointed the program did not stay at that level but you cannot have everything you wish for.
Nah, would just like to see them compete for the east every once in a blue moon lol. Two crappy bowl wins against northwestern and Iowa isn't my idea of accomplishments or being relevant. Shouldnt be UT's either.

Mullen has been thought of for years as the second best coach in the sec. He was beating every team in the sec except bammer at MSS St. Now he has uf talent and resources. I'm not surprised at all. But it does say that we need to get a decent coach. It starts with admin. Nobody good wants to work with them.
His record says otherwise:
conf overall
3-5 (5-7)
4-4 (9-4)
2-6 (7-6)
4-4 (8-5)
3-5 (7-6)
6-2 (10-3)
4-4 (9-4)
3-5 (6-7)
4-4 (8-4)

Only one year with less than 4 conference losses: he must have lost to somebody besides Alabama during those seasons.

For comparison, McIlwain started 6-0 at Florida with a win over #3 Ole Miss, before losing by a touch down to #6 LSU. 10-1 going into the Florida State game.

His record looked like this:
7-1 (10-4) won East
6-2 (9-4) won East
started off 3-4 and got fired.

When the smoke clears, Mullen will have similar results, or worse.

Only reason we did not beat UF 4 straight years was Butch Jones. UF just beat LSU.
They are 5 -1 and 3 -1 in the SEC. I guess UF was loaded to begin this year?
Looks like they do not have to wait 4 years to turn it around.
I am not throwing JP under the bus. This is aimed at the UT decision makers.
You get what you pay for and UT is just not willing to do that.

The decision makers were Hamilton and hart, they are gone, and Fulmer and Pruitt have to clean up their mess. It's a four to five year project.

I’ve followed the Vols since 1963 and the only proven Head Coach they’ve hired is John Majors.

Yet, Butch Jones, Derek Dooley, Lane Kiffin we’re all more proven than Gus Malzhan, Kirby Smart, Jim McElwain or Hugh Freeze. Maybe it’s the people hiring the people.

Florida has far better football players than Tennessee, especially along the lines of scrimmage. They’ve been developed. Tennessee has had the worst conditioning, strength, and development in America the last 4-5 years.

This season is not about Mullen and Pruitt. Season 4 will be.

More truth to your post than many will agree too

With the players that Pruitt inherited, no coach anywhere could win with this bunch, they are that bad or worse
All you have to do is watch them play, they are not willing to make the sacrifices neccessary to win and that's almost impossible to change

What is UCLA and Nebraska’s record with their 2 “proven “ HC’s this year?

I think the point is that one would have more faith in Frost.and Kelly to turn the program around instead of a coach that has yet to win an FBS game.
No the point is to pass judgement on a new HC 5 games in to season 1, by using a total of 1 HC s success as comparison because it supported OP’s agenda and ignore the others!
Total BS post

Some folks didnt want pruitt in the first place. That shouldnt be very suprising.

McElwain went 10-2 in his first regular season at UF too. It’s WAY too early for these threads.

And Muschamp went 11-1 and to the Sugar Bowl in year 2, and was an eyelash from playing for the National Title in 2012. Too early to tell about Pruitt and despite a really good 3 game run, too early to tell about Mullen, but I do love UF's trajectory.

Not surprising at all. Neither is it that they are acting like we should be 5-0 and should win a NC 1 year after an 0-8 SEC record,
Ignorance is never in question on here

Meh, I think they are more disappointed in just how bad the team look, especially since the narrative the has been "if we only had a good coach / we are just a good coach away" I dont anyone expected what you describe.

If Pruitt and Helton would run a variation of Butch's smashmouth spread, they would easily make a bowl game this year. The coaches are the ones who've chosen to pursue the future is now philosophy that involves making guys run the I even if they're not suited for it. The coaches have pretty much made this whole season a practice session for whatever comes next. We should expect lots of wins next year and hold feet to fire if the wins don't come.

I’m as eager as anyone for some wins but even next year may be a stretch. Easier schedule but same players + incoming freshmen.
