But who are you to tell anyone how they should act as a fan? It's your opinion and nothing else. I don't feel uncomfortable about the way I feel or act as a fan. What I am reacting to is some pompous person on a message board preaching to people he knows nothing about, about something he only qualifies in his own head.
You can scour this forum and you will never find a single post where I have advocated that CBJ be fired at this time. And honestly the ones that have I simply chock up to them being an emotional passionate fan that is showing frustration.
Do I think CBJ has a major coaching deficiency on game day that could manifest into a fatal flaw? Yes Do I think he can overcome it and become the coach we all want? Maybe. But I can say with certainty that all the top ten recruiting classes, the depth building etc will be for nothing if he can't coach on game day. I mean you would agree that winning is the goal, right? And no we can't afford a coach that is on a learning curve. You can't build a program on losses.
Now if that makes me a bad fan in you're eyes, you can kiss it. It's my opinion, I'm entitled to it.
So the OP has 70 "Likes". That's somewhat telling. Does anybody know what the record is?
I've seen like 2 posters call for a change. There has been more threads condemning posters who want Butch fired, than actual posters who want Butch fired.
I have no idea what the record is and it's difficult to precisely identify those attributes that will earn a massive number of "likes" for any given post. Sarcasm-laced text often garners "inordinate" praise on this forum; posting tweeted data on recruits quickly pumps up the stat line on the Recruiting Forum. Strangely enough, I once got 145 likes just for posting a lengthy and most gracious thank you from Michael Palardy, one that he posted on his Facebook page shortly after the conclusion of his playing career. His communique was directed in part to VolNation, as well as everyone who had supported or motivated him throughout his tenure at the University of Tennessee (http://www.volnation.com/forum/tenn...sity-tennessee.html?highlight=Michael+Palardy).
Butch isn't going anywhere. Anyone that thinks he is needs to come to that reality.
The ones going off the deep-end are the ones that called anyone with a "wait and see" attitude a nega-vol, or told them to go cheer for _____________.
I think most of the frustration comes from the fact that both OU & UF were won. We just had to wait for the clock to hit 0:00. It wasn't like losses in the past where we were blown out (Bama, OU, Ole Miss, Oregon) or just came up short in a comeback effort (UGA).
There are many positive things going on with the program. UT just needs to complete the circle and win the games. The good news is in the SEC there are plenty of chances left (Ark, UGA, Bama, USC, Mizzou) to get some quality wins.
Still on the flank with you JP.
My first words when UF made the TD, "that's it...they got to be cursed". I moped around the rest of Saturday and most of Sunday.
Yet, I still refuse to join the single point of failure crowd...plenty of coulda, woulda, shoulda examples for both the coaches and the players...it is a total team effort.
Listening to various pundits Monday while driving....almost everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to burn Jones at the stake...almost to an embarrassing degree of group think. Tom Lugginbill was the only guy who took a more rational and cautious approach when discussing what happened w/ the VOLS in the Swamp and it was nice to hear a different take on things
Glad to "see" you around JP.
Good OP. I really appreciate how you went into so much detail to narrow it down to the most... Well, you know. Then added "so if you are offended by this"..
Then to see how many were offended. Priceless.
When you make the money CBJ makes, the fan base has an inarguable right to expect more. Bad execution 2 or 3 times in basic situations is on the players. Repeated poor execution is on the coaches. Continued poor play calling is coaching. Poor clock management is coaching. We aren't paying a UC salary but, 3 years in, were are still getting it.
Now, having said that, the two losses were blown leads not blow outs. I think the talent on the field is growing by leaps and bounds. What will be a shame is returning to what we had with Philmer. Where the team on the field had to try to win in spite of him.
Bottom line, my wife and my families have put enough kids through UT and bought enough season tickets that if I want to ***** on a message board I will.
