@Deadspin: Michigan flop ruins otherwise great game: Michigan Flop Ruins An Otherwise Great Game
55.1
That's Michigan's shooting percentage last night. As someone else mentioned, it may have been a flop but he lost control of the ball anyway. The defense gave away the game not the refs.
If you don't call a charge, you don't call a foul at all--and a lot of officials would not have blown the whistle. In that case we would also have lost because Stokes lost the ball and I'm sure michigan would have retrieved it--it did not go out of bounds. Martin's strategy--that Stokes would be able to score from 12 feet out--was dumb. You get it to McRae or Richardson--as 99.9999 percent of the coaches in American would have done. They can escape from pressure with their dribbling; Stokes cannot.
Yep... it's nice to have someone to blame defeat and loss on. Personally, I'm tired of hearing it from members of this board and my children. What I tell my kids is to "step up and make a difference where you can. Control what you can control and be prepared to deal with - and move forward - whatever the outcome." Even in some of the huge and controversial losses in football (LSU and NC) the VOLS could have controlled their own destiny had they made a 3rd and 1 (if my memory serves me). Even last night, some chip shots around the basket in the final minutes and poor free throwing hurt the VOLS. I hate the outcome but I am encouraged about how this team never quit - even when a lot of the fan base had. GBO!!!
We never, ever should have been 15 down in the first place. Why does it take for our backs to be against the wall to start playing to our capabilities? Is there any way that any coach can do something about players not playing to their capabilities? I think a good coach can do something about it before it gets to the point it did last night. It is entirely possible that I'm wrong and that's just the way basketball is these days. This is not a fire Cuonzo rant. More of a rant against being down 15. And probably none of the preceding jibberish has made any sense........
Really the only terrible calls were them giving us the ball back, and the charge. It was a charge, but the old rule is you don't make that call in that situation. Other than that they were letting the teams play, that's why we weren't in foul trouble until the last minute
