You can't win when the refs won't let you...

If you don't call a charge, you don't call a foul at all--and a lot of officials would not have blown the whistle. In that case we would also have lost because Stokes lost the ball and I'm sure michigan would have retrieved it--it did not go out of bounds. Martin's strategy--that Stokes would be able to score from 12 feet out--was dumb. You get it to McRae or Richardson--as 99.9999 percent of the coaches in American would have done. They can escape from pressure with their dribbling; Stokes cannot.

The officiating did piss me off. Especially in the first half. The second half was better, but we were still getting shafted.

The game changer, in my opinion, was mccrae's free throws. He missed half of them. Had he made half of what he missed, we would not have needed the refs calls at the end.

Yep... it's nice to have someone to blame defeat and loss on. Personally, I'm tired of hearing it from members of this board and my children. What I tell my kids is to "step up and make a difference where you can. Control what you can control and be prepared to deal with - and move forward - whatever the outcome." Even in some of the huge and controversial losses in football (LSU and NC) the VOLS could have controlled their own destiny had they made a 3rd and 1 (if my memory serves me). Even last night, some chip shots around the basket in the final minutes and poor free throwing hurt the VOLS. I hate the outcome but I am encouraged about how this team never quit - even when a lot of the fan base had. GBO!!!

We never, ever should have been 15 down in the first place. Why does it take for our backs to be against the wall to start playing to our capabilities? Is there any way that any coach can do something about players not playing to their capabilities? I think a good coach can do something about it before it gets to the point it did last night. It is entirely possible that I'm wrong and that's just the way basketball is these days. This is not a fire Cuonzo rant. More of a rant against being down 15. And probably none of the preceding jibberish has made any sense........

That's Michigan's shooting percentage last night. As someone else mentioned, it may have been a flop but he lost control of the ball anyway. The defense gave away the game not the refs.

Yep, teams rarely win when they give up 45 points in a half. Michigan was known for it's 3 point shooting coming in and we gave up wide open looks. They weren't that known for taking it to the basket and we gave up wide open looks there too. Just bad play by us for half the game that was too much to overcome.

The fact that the crux of your argument is what would have probably happened means you don't have much of an argument at all. Go sit back down in your armchair.

I don't look at it as nice. I look at it like I'm not going to stick my head in the sand and act like this is a legit tournament where the best team moves on when people not physically playing in the game decide the outcome. Personally, I have had put refs on blast in plenty of games where the team I root for isn't even involved. I have never heard of a fan say that they pay to watch a ref make calls. They are to be seen not heard. And when they make sorry judgement calls that decide the outcome of the game, they should be mocked and made fun of. Makes me think the fix is in when I see the crap I saw last night.

It felt like watching the 1997 Heisman Trophy Ceremony all over again.

We hadn't been down that much or even close to that much in 6 weeks. It was bound to happen, and we saw that our team showed the effort to have a chance to win. You get down that much when the opponent shoots 80% from 3. The defense wasn't great in the first, but they did make some contested shots. You tip you'd hay to your opponent and work hard for the next one.

Really the only terrible calls were them giving us the ball back, and the charge. It was a charge, but the old rule is you don't make that call in that situation. Other than that they were letting the teams play, that's why we weren't in foul trouble until the last minute

It was not a charge. Stokes was moving in his lane, around the defender, when the defender side-stepped into him. Stokes was fouled.
