You Can Change ONE Play

The retarded ref giving Vandy a GENEROUS spot of 3rd and short. They wouldn't have picked up the 4th down had it been spotted correctly and UT would be bowling. Yes I'm actually blaming the refs.

The pick up of 3rd & 1 vs Vandy. We lost 2 & had to punt. We get that 1st down...we win.

Either this, the "block in the back" play, or the fumble in hte endzone against UGA.

The GREAT POSITIVE to take away from this thread is when is the last ime we got to discuss "Hey what ONE play would have changed our season?"

Lately it's been what 2 or 3 games would have changed our season...we've come a long way in a short time.

A lot of great points in this thread. I agree that just talking about a couple of plays that affect a season might be the sign of a turnaround.

Ill throw out another scenario: what if Peterman is pulled after 2 turnovers?

Do we win?

He's not hurt and his confidence not completely shredded.

He can backup when Worley goes down and we don't burn the red shirt.

Personally I think that bit of BuJo hardheadedness has put the most questions in my mind.

And the fact that every other team could stop Martin but us.

You mean Murphy?

I would chose to change the play where Worley got hurt as I think that was the turning point for us.

Holding on Pig against Candy that got a TD taken off the board. With that TD the game is over and we're bowling..

the only botched call was the fake field goal.

Ridiculous. Couldnt kick it. Couldnt punt from the 30. 4th and 19 and we can't complete a 10 yd pass. The plan is the Vandy db is nowhere in sight and the across the body throw doesn't matter as the holder catches a floater and walks in. It didn't work.
People acting like that fake lost the game or was even a bad call are ridiculous and blind from what options there were. Fg is no option. North is out. Pooch punt? You guys would be whining a decade from now about the infamous pooch punt.

Refs play too! Mine would have to be the BS pass interference call against us in the UGA game that gave Murray what....4 more attempts in the red zone? Crazy stuff with refs that game. stomach still hurts. UGA was given a win, plain and simple.

That's what I seem to recall.

Sutton stuck with Matthews but then released him and sat in his zone. Nobody was coming into his zone and he realized that nobody picked up Matthews.

Unless Sutton got really burned on a fake which I don't remember Matthews doing.

Just call it what it was:

Perfectly playcall to hit your best WR in the gap in zone coverage and UT didn't pick Matthews up. I don't really agree with the zone call either because you have to have had 2 guys on Matthews. The Ole Miss gametape would show Vandy would absolutely go to Matthews with the game on the line.

Exactly. :banghead2:

This thread makes one thing abundantly clear. If one play in one of the games we lost goes differently, we would be in the bowl picture.

One suggestion about the Saulsberry play might have been a really good one. A fresher D-Line rotation against Florida might have been able to make a couple of plays that kept Murphy from keeping drives alive with his legs. A win against Florida in the swamp might have been a springboard for confidence that put us over the hump and on our way to an eight or nine win season.

If either of the suggested plays against Georgia (3rd and 6 pass by Murray that went for 32 yards or Pig Fumble), goes differently we might have been looking at 7 or 8 wins.

If we change one of the Vandy plays, we get to 6 wins and a bowl.

At the end of the season, I like many others had a sense of disappointment. When you consider that this team started the season with at best 20% of its offensive production from the previous season and the worst defense that most of us have ever seen at Tennessee, it's not unreasonable to be somewhat impressed by just how close the Vols were to a good or really good season. I'm looking forward to signing day and next season, I have a feeling it might be fun to watch.

Lets change it up and one play all time! I say Mose Phillips two point conversion attempt against SC in '92.

I may be completely wrong, but I think that Mose scored the touchdown and the two point play was a pass to Little Man in the flat that got stuffed before he turn up field.

I would say Murray's TD pass to Wooten late in the 4th quarter. We beat Georgia and possibly be ranked if that play never happened.

Punted or kicked fg on 4th & 19 against Vandy. Fake fg was foolish.

That wind..was tough. But I agree 100%. But, have never questioned the decision..just the execution of the fake and the play. Should have let Neal take it on a fake, not a long throw into the wind.

The 3rd and 1 play against Vandy where we ended up getting stuffed. I think we should have run the Georgia toss play to Neal and he is probably still running...

The fake punt against Vandy!!

And there's another one. You people are ridiculous.

Somebody that is saying this needs to tell me their brilliant play call there with a qb that can't hold the ball and a kicker that can't kick a fg. Somebody step up.

You may not remember but he was kicking into a 20 gusting mph wind... Now punting might have been option to hang it in the wind but I do not disagree with not trying to kick it field goal,...I understand that call.... Of course hindsight is perfect if we pull that off CBJ looks like a genius of course that's the way that play always looks though... But for me without a doubt the pig fumble against Georgia would be the play ....
