You can’t blame Philip Fulmer for anything

He hired Pruitt thinking that he could win here with his ability. He wasn’t involved in the Pruitt mess. Pruitt is the one that is responsible for this mess.

Fulmer deserves blame not once but TWICE for driving Tennessee football into a home. You don't have a clue what Fulmer was involved in and you simply don't have a damn clue regarding anything else.

Nice. But you seem to forget this...

And you forget the fact he left this program in far weaker condition than the one he inherited from Coach Majors.
I don’t just those Fulmer homers..... or “ true” fans as he put it do.
I also remember the loss to Memphis with Peyton as QB ,and also remember that Fulmer was Spurriers bi*ch while he was at Florida and the numerous other upsets . You remember Steve Taneyhill UTNOW20 ?

I just hope that this whole thing gets taken all the way to the fullest extent. Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that Fulmer was very much involved, and that several other schools have things to worry about too. I think Georgia, Alabama and Oklahoma are doing major things that are against the rules, and I am sure others here could add to my list.

It is time for college athletics to be cleaned up a whole bunch, and I just wish we were the ones who kick-started that process.

Took over a Top 10 program in 1992 and left it a bottom-half SEC program in 2008.

Took over a Three Mile Island situation in 2017 and left it as a Chernobyl in 2020.

Over time, his legacy with football fans in general will be that national championship and the quality coaching record.

Those who dig deeper, most of them Tennessee fans, will know the end of the Fulmer story was a tragedy based largely on his inept decisions and lack of oversight.
So agree, nice that some ppl remember Fulmer’s ineptness too.

Yeah I honestly don’t know what to think....did he know about everything? Maybe.

Was he completely unaware? Hard to believe if all the reports are accurate, but maybe.

I know he really yoked himself to Pruitt and was supposed to help softly guide him as he grew into a head coach. At a minimum I do fault Fuller a bit for not reading the tea leaves sooner. Cheating aside, there were some big red flags I believe that hinted at JPs long term viability.

But again, what do I know, I’m just a dude who wants his team to be great again.....or at this point, .500 ball.... haha

Guess I’ll have to wait 20 years until Pruitt writes his tell-all book......I’m sure it’ll be well written and articulate

Responsibilities for an athletic director
Some of the primary responsibilities of an athletic director include:

  • Hiring, supervising or terminating coaches and athletic staff
  • Ensuring the school remains in compliance with athletic rules and regulations
  • Providing direction and guidance for the athletic program
  • Preparing budgets and allocating resources for things like team travel, purchases of new equipment, staff salaries and facility upkeep
  • Working with coaches to plan athletic travel
  • Filing reports on the status of each of the athletics teams
  • Acting as the liaison between the athletics and academic departments
  • Mediating disputes between coaches and athletes and between coaches

Fulmer was 1000 percent responsible for this and its pathetic that he is collecting 37500 $ a month for overseeing this debacle.

Really? Phillip Fulmer let this go on in his athletic department under his watch! He knew what was going on and didn’t put a stop to it! Yes everybody cheats but be freaking smart! This is on Phillip Fulmer just as much as Jeremy Pruitt

This begins and ends with Fulmer because it is/was his job to put a coach in place that doesn't cheat(or get caught) and its just the same for Pruitt(as outlined in his contract). Will Phil ever catch the blame because as we all know "sh*t runs downhill" so it's highly unlikely anything ever tracks back to Fulmer other than "retirement". Fulmer was in a position he had no experience in and was likely in well over his head and an easy work around for a coach. Does that make Fulmer a bad guy? Sure does not and it doesn't make him care about the university any less. Did it happen on his watch and was he the captain that ended up going down with the ship along with the crew? Yes

Fulmer had his day and time and during that period there were none better and I am happy to acknowledge that.

All this Fulmer a$$ kissing needs to stop. Fulmer is one reason why our program is this way. He got lazy and complacent in his last few years of coaching. He then sucked $6M off the university the he “loves”. He could have manned up and owned his failures and understory d how that money hurt the university. Then he worked his way into the AD position and brought in a coach with no HC experience, when plenty of names were out there. He’s always shown he didn’t want anyone coming on here who was smarter than him. Then he decides it’s time to “retire” and pulls another million out of the school. I’m glad he’s gone and hope he disappears from the football complex

Never my dear fellow. For with a valiant defender like CPF in the vanguard, and with a host of loyalists at his back, true UT fans cannot be defeated, those vol patriots of old. This war for the soul of volnation is far from done!!

Fortunately, I doubt that CPF is inclined to consider an NFL overture again (his great heart likely too aggrieved from the disgraceful treatment he received by those he held to his bosom as family), but perhaps he can be convinced to patrol the sidelines of Neyland once more, serving as the Admiral of the Vol navy, steering the program to port through the maelstrom of Scylla (negavols) and Charybdis (even more negavols).

Vicki,

I am glad to see you're staying busy in retirement with the creative writing class but please go practice elsewhere.

I’m not sure how AD’s compare with HC’s contracts as far as buyouts are concerned. If they are similarly structured , then Fulmer should have been fired for cause also. Lack of institutional control.

Sorry this is just too corny to like. Try another forum on a another teams site.

B...S...

Homerism at its finest.
Wouldn't surprise me if UT gives Pruitt more than he could get legally and NOT go to court. Phil will probably be cheerleading the heck outta that.

Yep.

That fact he wasn’t makes me fearful of what he knows. They poured on the praise and gave him a nice buyout like they’re running afraid of what he’ll tell.

said without an iota of evidence!! bravo sir!!
An honest check in from Steele and Tee would probably give ya all you want.
This isn't a court of law and there's lots of evidence for the court of public opinion where the optic is paramount.

Don't be so sure about that. Fulmer is a control freak and was way too involved in the football activities to not have had a hand in this. We already know he was in meetinvs and gave his input on plays. Fulmer is every damn bit responsible and if you can't see that something is wrong with you.
