Xbox One

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console — there will be no regional restrictions.

Officical release, I still say F them. They were getting blown out of the water vs. PS4 pre-orders, they had to do something.

Surprised they said uncle this quick. Its good for the industry and I am glad they are going in this direction.

Smart move by them to change their stance on that stuff, but they should have not started out with their orignal stance and let the fire get so big before putting it out.

If they made the XBone backward compatible, that would probably help them out big time imo since it would be an additional feature to what PS4 offers and bring more consumers to the Xbox side for the next gen. Many 360 users would probably stay instead of making the switch to PS if they could play thier 360 games still

Now they just need to have a day one patch that returns $100 and I really might consider the Xbox as my first next gen purchase.

Good to see this change happen. Still going with the PS4 (as of now). But nice to see consumers win. That whole issue would've killed the One.

They are lucky that it is a software issue. With the PS3 it was a hardware issue.

You're not kidding. Releasing one month before PS4 is their only saving grace right now. I can't imagine what a launch delay or recall would do at this point.

MS is too smart for that. I think they were just throwing a bunch of this stuff at the wall and seeing what stuck, knowing full well they could easily undo it prior to the launch. MS's company line has long been that of innovation whereas for the past 10 years, Sony's has very much been "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Innovation over stagnation played into MS's hands last generation, but it had become quite clear that consumer's weren't on board with the future MS was seeing this time and were happy with things the way they are for the most part. I still like that I'll be able to buy full games and download them straight to the console as opposed to having to go out and buy a disc.

I could see MS saying after 12-16 months, "you know what, we want to do the online requirement now."

I'm still going Sony. MS lost me with their arrogance

Same here.

The PS4 has the superior hardware, the cheaper price, the better exclusives (in my opinion), and most importantly Sony stood for what gamers wanted when it counted! They didn't wait until they were getting their asses kicked in pre-sells before they decided to suddenly do a 180 and say "oh we listened to our consumers so now we take it all back."

This changes absolutely nothing for me. PS4 at launch along with Knack, Killzone Shadow Fall, Watchdogs, and Battlefield 4.

Those are some good launch games to get you started

Embarrassing but nice to see the change was made. Now offer a bundle without the Kinect so you can drop the price.

Lol this nerd totally rages out.
Don Mattrick's First Draft of the Xbox One Update Announcement - Dorkly Article

Really, this was our fault. We didn't realize you just wanted the SAME ****ING CONSOLE AS BEFORE. You know, the one you ALREADY OWN (but with slightly better graphics). We were trying to do something new. By forcing you to connect to the internet, we would allow huge game universes that wouldn't be limited to what we could fit on a disc. By restricting used games, we would guarantee that the DEVEOLPERS WHO MAKE THE GAMES made money instead of some ****-stain executives at Gamestop. Haha, but then again, I'm sure you give the same **** to Valve over Steam, right? Since they require and internet connection to download games and you can't resell or borrow through them, right?

OH WAIT, THAT'S RIGHT, YOU ****ING LOVE STEAM FOR DOING THE EXACT SAME ****. ****.

"But Steam has great sales all the time!" you whine. SO? MAYBE WE WOULD HAVE TOO, IF YOU COULD HAVE GIVEN US A ******N CHANCE INSTEAD OF CRUCIFYING US 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU EVEN TRIED THE SYSTEM. CHRIST.

Now the Xbox One and PS4 will be virtually identical! What kind of consumer group would want "choices" and "options that are different from one another" anyhow? Now you basement dwellers on the internet can argue about which system is better by going nebulously-different hardware specs and a handful of exclusive titles instead of the actual substantive differences between Sony's and Microsoft's next gen consoles. AGAIN. JUST LIKE LAST TIME...

PS - Oh and you're whining about Kinect watching you? Yeah, because we REALLY want to watch some out-of-shape 20-something sit in their underwear and play Skyrim for 8 hours straight. You got us, you uncovered our master plan - look at your gross, horrible bodies in poorly-lit studio apartments. Jesus.

If anyone thought that MS would have game deals like Steam does, they havent been paying attention to MS over the last few years. Hell, they still have games that are at least a year old on demand for 59.99.
