Had the same problem. Find a soft carpet or soft rug and hold the xbox anout 3 inches above it then drop it on the tray face side. Just make sure to guide it so it doesn't fall on it's side. Like hold your hands around it and gently let it hit then immediately grab it after it hits. Dead serious it worked

buy a new drive and spoof it to your board.........either that or buy a new xbox because you are screwed. Seriously though, a long shot would be to buy the lense cleaner disc for the xbox which you can find at bestbuy. It runs about 9 bucks and will sometimes do the trick. If that doesnt work, short of taking your drive apart, I would look for a new xbox

That sucks, why couldn't i go down in RROD glory like a normal person. I will try the disk cleaner, maybe the dropping it on a rug or hitting the top of it with a controller.

Make sure it's a thick carpet/rug. I'm not trying to bs you into cracking your xbox. Just in case you do try it. Just what worked for me

If i had the right tools at the moment, i would take it apart and attempt to clean the lens. Probally go later and pick up that cleaning disk, followed by a impulsive late night purchase at Wal-Mart out of frustration.

hopefully the cleaning disc will work, long shot, but it is the most inexpensive way to fix it.

Really, that got deleted? Since when do ppl stay on topic here? Just stating a fact that this issue is common. Could be helpful for someone trying to decide on a system
