WR coach replacement

Tennessee: Sources say, FIU receivers coach Kevin Beard is a strong candidate for the receivers position at Tennessee. Beard, a former receiver at Miami, was on staff at Miami (with Tennessee OC Larry Scott) in 2014 & ’15, served as an offensive quality control at Georgia for the 2016 season and had joined Butch Davis’ staff at FIU a few months back.

Maybe I have him mixed up with someone else that the HS coaches were in an uproar about. Two stints 12 years apart doesn't seem like it would develop a strong following from said coaches.

Possible I guess. In Craig's case, I am concerned with possible maturity issues. Last season, we heard rumblings of possible discord between some of our coaches, and not saying that indirectly led to the drama with Hurd, but it couldn't have help.

As to who Butch gets, I am a little less concerned with him making a great hire, but more concerned he does not making a bad hire. The maturity and leadership of the coaches is generally mirrored by the players. And so far, I feel Butch has brought in new strong leaders. No need to counter those gains by bringing in a weak one.

So, if Craig is selected, I hope my concerns are wrong.

It seems as though Peerless Price is campaigning pretty hard for the job on Twitter right now.

Has Price coached anywhere? I can't find a resume on him. Peerless was a great receiver, but you don't just wake up one morning, proclaim today I will be a coach, and get the job at a power 5 school that happens to be your alma mater on the merits of a championship ring.

That is about as silly as Fulmer harping on it to become an AD. If Peerless can coach, I hope they give him the opportunity to prove it as a GA. Without a resume, I don't see him getting the job.

I believe Price is coaching at a private school in Norcross, Georgia.

Yes, I completely agree with you. I wasn't saying that he should be the coach, but just reporting what I saw on his twitter. I just hope he doesn't get his feelings hurt when he is passed over for an accomplished college coach. I use the term "accomplished" optimistically.

TJ Weist would actually be a good hire imo...Coached at few good programs he was with Butch at Cincinnati, had the #1 and #2 ranked wrs in the big ten.Coached wrs at Bama and Michigan also so the pedigree is there.Definitely could see them bringing him in if hes available.

I read that some people wouldn't mind kevin beard he played on the great hurricanes teams..that would be the worst mistake in life..he didnt coach the the wr at the U good at all..we had good potential at wr but nobody ever maximized there potential..he is horrible im a big cane fan and you don't want beard..don't want him coaching my nephew Brandon Johnson..

Chad?

That's like saying Magic, Bird, or Jordan couldn't teach basketball. A coach teaches what they were taught. His resume is NC MVP and a NFL career.

Brandon loved coach Z.. I just didnt like the way beard recruited Brandon you don't tell a recruit that he don't have a shot in playing here... he is a legacy kid..played on two state championship teams and played on a powerhouse at American heritage and you tell him that he aint good enough? The same kid he doubted has a chance to start at wr this year for ten vols..smh

No bueno. Cant say that this guy deserves to wear Orange. No time for negative folks.

Losing Tee Higgins to Clemson was an embarrassment. I would like to blame that on ZA. He dropped his commit to UT early in 2016 if I remember correctly. That was before a lot of the hype over the summer and well before the losses to USC and Vandy, so those aren't the reasons he backed away from UT. Losing anymore recruits like that will be a death nail for Butch, hopefully he realizes this and that's why ZA isn't the OC and he took another job.

Winner winner...Tee Higgins and Amari Rodgers. Neither would consider Tennessee bc of Azzani.

Great players aren't necessarily great coaches. It's all in their communication skills. Many of them know how to play, just not how to teach.

My choices in order.

1) Kevin Beard
2) Tyron Carrier
3) Chris Beatty

I really like Beard the more I hear and dig about him. Worked with Larry Scott at Miami, great recruiting connections in Florida. Plus enjoyed watching his intensity in his micd up videos.

that is overlooked,I don't think that Peyton or Fulmer should be involved in the AD hunt at all or be consider as a coach

but it is UT,so who knows what will happen, hopefully the new Chancellor will make a good decision
