Would you take 38 points vs Bama

If you gave me that right now, I’d say our average wins the game in Tuscaloosa. Everyone will want to pile on the defense “they’ll give up 50”, but our defense has been consistent in one area specifically and that’s been forcing turnovers in timely areas.

We also lead the league in sacks so we are getting noticeable pressure time and time again.

I think it also helps Simpson won’t be as much of a running threat like we just dealt with last night.

Tennessee scoring:

41 against Georgia
41 against Miss State
34 against Arkansas

38 PPG

Bama scoring:

24 against Georgia
30 against Vandy
27 against Mizzou

27 PPG
38 pts is a winner

Just can't fathom a "number to win" against bama because of the officiating crew that we'll likely draw. Is there a point total they can't help bama overcome? I'm not sure there is.

Turnovers are a part of the game and are almost always a key in the outcome of a game. That is why they are part of General Neyland maximums.

  1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.
  2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way—SCORE.

That’s like saying the team with the most points win.

Not saying the defense is great - but you can't overlook the advantage of a defense that forces turnovers.
Usually the better the opponent, the less likely they are to turn the ball over...or commit an inordinate number of penalties. Well coached teams usually don't make a ton of mistakes so I'm not sure how much you can count on the turnovers continuing. Hopefully Banks and Heupel can figure this out. If that level of defense continues, we might not win more than a couple of more games at most.

Saw a stat on Bama last night, think it said they were +7 in TO's so far this season, so they do not turn it over much. Think Simpson has 2 ints so far.

Depends how you quantify it.

Tennessee gives up a crap ton of yardage. But we lead league in sacks and are T2 in takeaways on defense.

If our offense and defense play to their averages, we should win a 7-10 margin.

Everyone wants to trash our defense but we are consistently getting to the quarterback and forcing turnovers.

I will be comfy as long as our offense is business as usual

We don’t just give up a lot of yards. We give up a lot of points

They were both in the same series so you can't score points on both of them. It will be 3 or 7.
Nope, the Brazzell TD drop was at the other end of the field on a sort of back shoulder throw. You’re thinking of the bomb in the sunlight in the opposite endzone so two different series but we did get a FG on the Brazzell drop so really 11 points left on the field

Id take any number, even if it was just a safety, as long as Bama had less. The SEC is loaded from top to bottom. All these people fascinated with style points needs to change with the times. Its survive and advance so give me 1 possession, play down to your competition, "stop giving me anxiety every game Tennessee" dubs all season.

Which is why I said I will be fine if our offense AND defense play to their averages.

You are dreaming if you think this defense is even remotely good enough to travel to Tuscaloosa and win. We haven’t beat them in Tuscaloosa in 20 years with far better defenses. Our season will hinge on the Oklahoma, Florida, and Vanderbilt games. If we manage to win those three then there is an outside shot at making the playoffs.

Okay so don’t watch next week. Go trim to shrubs clown

Short answer No. I would take 50+. If somehow we wind up with a lead late in the 4th I hope Heupel has learned enough to keep the pressure on and keep scoring, no more “prevent offense”

“Fortunate turnovers”….

It’s not like we got lucky with the turnovers we’ve forced in our 3 league games.

Especially last night’s…. There was one of the three fumbles that was just dropped into our laps.
I agree, we earned everyone of those turnovers against Arky.

I’d take 38 and we have a great shot at that and it would definitely put us in position to win. Both teams give up points.

A few things to watch:
Does RB Jam Miller clear concussion protocol.

Our injuries status by Saturday?

Simpson has been impressed but we will hit him! HE is scrawny little! He’s gotten ROCKED, hit hard and frequently in several games, which works in our D’s favor, style of play matchup.

Does Simpson get tight playing “home state” Vols?!?!? ( Vols are due to benefit from an opponent’s QB having a meltdown game to balance all the ones we have endured past 45 years.

Can our offense NOT leave points on the field and JH NOT take foot off gas?

Can DC create any decent game plan? We can’t get off field and often are simply calling wrong D plays which makes guys be out of position or “look slow”?…. It’s not as much players and talent as some claim!

TN won’t have a chance to win minus scoring 40+ points. Heck, it may take 50.

Based on what? Alabama hasn’t shown they can score that much in league play. And you’d have to think our defense basically doesn’t touch the quarterback or force turnovers.

Essentially, you’re saying that Bama is gonna play a perfect game for us to HAVE TO score 40+

Unless our offense has an off night - we will score points. We were not as crisp against Arkansas at times on offense and they were focused on limiting the time our offense had on the field.

Bama has never played the "let's limit the number of times Tennessee has the ball" concept. I think they will approach us like Georgia approached us. So we will score points and if Joey and the receivers are clicking it will be in the 30 plus range.
Coaches really need to scheme better plays for Brazzell as he was basically taken out of the game by Ark. with only 1 catch for 5 yards and only 4 targets. I realize he was double teamed pretty much all game, and Staley and Matthews both had good games. But you have to find ways and get creative to get Brazzell open much better against Ala.

But he wasn’t taken out. We just didn’t throw to him. The entire 4th quarter when we were trying to run out the clock once we went up 17 with 10+ minutes left, Arky stacked the box with 8 and a single high safety with Matthews and Brazzell getting man coverage. We just didn’t try to get them the ball which was odd. But Heupel decided to go into his “coach to not lose” mood and tried to run out the ballgame.
