:biggrin2: This sounds suspiciously like a Ainge vs Schaffer thread?!? :biggrin2:

These questions may be stupid but these are questions that "24/7, 365" college football fans think about. These kind of questions are what seperates the site from others. This site has verly knowledgable and respectable posters.....its great to be apart of Vol Nation.

Anyway, back to the question. If Tennessee would have had Schaeffer this year coming of the bench and dual threat then I think the offense would have clicked better. :twocents:

Does Fulmer know what to do with a dual threat QB?

Is he scared to change? Is UT better off with a pocket passer?

According to some, that NC year doesn't even count. Fulmer got lucky.

UT is better with a pocker passer. At least in a two quarterback system with an offense designed for a pocket passer.

I'm not trying to draw lines, just pointing out that Phil has won with guys that can move around. Tee Martin . . . Heath Shuler etc.

Question might be, Does Coach Cut know what a dual threat QB is? If I remember correctly he didn't adjust his offense to Romero Miller nor Michael Spurlock. If you have an athlete at QB you must show case his ablities. Example West Virginia.

No worries GAVol, This turned out to be a better topic than I thought. I guess if you really look at it, you can win both ways. You just need the right mix bith ways. A solid OL to give your passer time and a tough scrambler with some sort of accuracy.

And yeah, this could be read into as an Ainge Schaeffer thread. And yeah, IMO, we would have done better with Schaeffer here. But it didn't work out that way, too bad.

Dual Threat is the way to go in college. I think Johnathan Crompton has the ability to break a defense with his arm and legs.
i agree a dual threat can out run college defenses, the shuler era offenes were great imo even better than
peytons

Great thread...I've always wanted a pocket passer, but it appears more and more in todays college game that the dual threat QB is slowly catching up with the pocket passers. They have to be accounted for on D and that takes one less defender out of the secondary while keeping him in the box to shadow the Qb. Also, it seems as if they are becoming better and better passers.

Thank you NC. That is what I have been thinking, but just not able to put to words.

NOw must I elaborate on this topic. It is a no brainer, unless you have a A+ Offensive line and A+ receivers then a dual threat qb is the only way to go!

And that's too many A+'s. Dual threat is it now.

This thread reminds me when the Falcons played at Chicago in a playoff game this year. Chicago shut Vick down. Now, you stop him, you can stop anybody. I consider Vick dual. I know the NFL is better but some similarities do exist.

I'd take either. It would be awesome to have an OC who knows how to formulate gameplans in order for which ever one is the #1 guy. To answer your ?, I'd take the perfect blend of the the two...a passer who is mobile. todays game (college and pro) is too fast for a statue to be sitting back there, but @ the same time when a peyton manning comes along a good OC will recognize talent and and formulate a plan of attack that he will be successful in. whenever you look @ the top 10 at the end of the season, you won't see any team in there who didn't fit there syst318--

Matt Lineart, Carson Palmer, Jason White, Chris Weinke, Ken Dorsey etc etc. . . . all with National titles.

The only "dual threat" QBs I can think of that have won in the past 10 years are Vince Young, Tee Martin and Matt Mauck . . . and Martin and Mauck really only ran when flushed out of the pocket.

What about Charlie Ward..was that more than 10 yrs ago.

What kind of question is this? Anybody rather win and go undefeated. If that means starting tee marting ahead of Peyton all 4 years. I could careless what happens in the nfl.

Exactly. I want NC's. And nowadays it seems a dual threat is the best bet.

That ryhmes.

And I spelled that wrong. I'll leave it for LIO.
