We talked about this at work today. Screw the NFL. I want UT to win it all. Dual threat is the thing. But then there are Peyton Manning arguments. Which one everyone?

I hate these kinds of questions. You can win with both.

But look at today. The dual threat wins. And as bad as I hate to say, Peyton never beat Florida. What is there to do when pinpoint passes don't cut it?

Uh let's see - USC, OU and LSU did it with pocket passers. Texas did it with a dual threat.

If Peyton would have been on 98 team we would have won it bigger. Defense kept us in many games where Tee was struggling. Receivers also had two more years to develop after Peyton departed. He didn't beat Florida but that wasn't just him.

One man beat Florida - AL WILSON!

I'll take a pocket passer. Dual-threats may win 1 for every 6 pocket-passers win.

Bandwagon

Matt Lineart, Carson Palmer, Jason White, Chris Weinke, Ken Dorsey etc etc. . . . all with National titles.

The only "dual threat" QBs I can think of that have won in the past 10 years are Vince Young, Tee Martin and Matt Mauck . . . and Martin and Mauck really only ran when flushed out of the pocket.

Who was the Ohio State QB? Krentzel? Whoever it was - he wasn't a dual threat.

You're not implying I am a bandwagon fan are you?

I think he just meant that mobile QBs and spread offenses are just the "in thing" right now sort of like the Run and Shoot, the Wishbone etc. have been at other times.

I like the option that a dual threat QB brings with their legs... but that can also bring more injuries from all of the extra hits they take.

I guess you could say the same thing for the pocket passer that just stands there and gets nailed.

Dual Threat is the way to go in college. I think Johnathan Crompton has the ability to break a defense with his arm and legs.

Ill take a pocket passer. Mobile is often confused with Dual, IMO. Somewhat agreeing with Crak. The guy that can sense the pressure, never lose focus, and put a pass on a wire while rolling out or being pursued.
To me, thats really what i liked about Tee. He really never seemed to reach for the panic button, good size and always knew where the first down marker was just incase he needed to tuck it.

JC, lists at 6'3 220. He's every bit of 6'3, the 220 ??? I met him in mid Nov and he's down on the weight. Ofcoarse, at that point he was still very limited with his shoulder. He has a reputation for being a hitter on D, and calm as can be out of the pocket. Anxious to see him full speed April 8th.

In a perfect world, a pocket passer that wins (period) is what I'd like, that is if the o/l and r/b are doing their jobs, along
with well ran pass patterns. I think the qb may be subjected to punishment too often with dual threat.Tee Martin was a tough physical qb along with a heart the size of the state of Tennessee!

it was craig krenzel and he was not a runner.

the only game he ran in was the national championship game against miami because miami never stopped qbs.

i would like a qb like brady quinn who is mobile but can throw great.

quinn can make the clutch 1st down runs if he has to but isnt vince young.

but mobile qbs are taking over.

here is the top 10.

1. Texas- scrambler
2. USC- pocket
3. Penn State- scrambler
4. Ohio State - scrambler
5. West Virginia -scrambler
6. LSU- not really sure, i would say pocket but russel can scramble
7. Virginia Tech- scrambler
8. Alabama- pocket
9. Notre Dame- pocket
10. Georgia- scrambler

6 of 10 are scramblers.

4 of top 5 are scramblers.

Dual threats have been around a while. I cannot believe the way the media has hyped Vick and Young without mentioning Frazier and Ward. Those two guys did as much for their teams. I think it boils down to leadership in the huddle and coaching. You can win with both.

Exactly. Its a crazy question. Either one can win. They just win in different ways.

Excellent question USAF Vol. If we continue to ridicule every question, why have a football board. It gets to the point with a fraction of the posters submitting topics, well, you know, I'm from the school of thought no question is a stupid question. :banghead:

Oh there are PLENTY of stupid questions. :D

I don't think this is a stupid question, just one that gets debated when it doesn't really have to be. The only problem I have with this poll is that you can tell by reading the choices that it's probably slanted.

There are plenty of situations where both types of QBs can thrive.

I guess my point is you have a 9 average per day poster trying to contribute to a board and you have a 1 average per day knocking it or so it seems.I mean, which is more valuable to the board ? :dunno: Are people going to grow leary of making post?I know mine are on the down slide.

Yeah, I can see how it is viewed as slanted. :whistling:

But you see my point of view and how I think it is right away. I do think it is a good question. See how everyone sees this. Draw lines and tell us how you feel.

I would never belittle anyone's question . . . Especially one that comes from somebody who is only about 15 miles from me. :whistling:

Besides, he might get hold of some keys and get into the guided missle supply room, and you know, do some target practicing.
