Yes, two seasons ago we had our best running back get his leg broken by an illegal hit. That was middle school.

Yes, two seasons ago we had our best running back get his leg broken by an illegal hit. That was middle school.

I had a kid in high school the year before last have his leg snapped in two during practice. Another player just fell on his leg. No, attempt to hurt the kid, he just fell and snapped that leg in half. I still cringe thinking about it. I was maybe 4 feet away from him.

To much "protection" has led to reckless abandon. I doubt its possible to go back to a less protective helmet such as padded leather but I believe neck and head injuries would go down drastically if they did. Proper technique is a lost art and no one cares about it anymore because they are "protected".

I would think the potential for damage would be greater the higher the level you go up

especially for brain injury - the padding/protection in your skeleton wouldnt vary that much in a high schooler or NFL player i wouldnt think - but the force applied by the hits is far greater

Fade, I would agree about the upsizing of the players, but the equipment is also a 2 way street. You can make a helmet that protects against all superficial head damage and even makes it where you can run into a wall with it hurting, but it won't ever stop the brain sloshing around IMO. So what do you do, make it "hurt" to hit someone with your head, then you wind up where we were in the 50's and 60's. I don't know, it's a tough nut to crack.

Roger Goodell is the worst thing to ever happen to the NFL. I don't want to see players permanently injured but its getting ridiculous. Defensive players are getting fined and suspended for hits that the NFL used to put on highlight reels.

There used to be a segment called "Jacked UP!"
