When I look at last years vol team I see a team that could've easily gone 9-3 during regular season had they not laid eggs in game 1 and 2. They competed with Bama up to the end and ended the season with the defense playing very well. Now Tennessee is on a nice recruiting streak. Its really no surprise why other schools are noticing and starting to take shots. If Tennessee upsets one of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, or Oklahoma this season and beats the teams its supposed to, I'd bet the recruiting will really start to take off. And I think that has a good possibility of happening. Tennessee coming back lowers Georgias chances to ever win a natty under Kirby. And that obviously scares the pupsI don't think Tennessee is "so bad." I do think there may be a little hype going on when you really look at last year's Vol team. As for the UGA twitter about TN, I see it as nothing more than friendly, trash talk. I could be wrong but I don't think anyone at UGA is losing sleep over what might happen with TN's 2021 recruiting class.
Not sure what you mean by TN competing with Bama up the the end. It was a 15 point spread at the start of the 4th quarter. When UGA fans are contemplating the things that may prevent a Kirby Smart National Championship at UGA, we worry about big game coaching blunders, the Florida Gators, and the SEC West Champ. Things may change in the future, but believe me, Dawg fans are not concerned that the Vols will be the reason Kirby fails to win big. When I look at last years vol team I see a team that could've easily gone 9-3 during regular season had they not laid eggs in game 1 and 2. You would have had to have watched the game. We were on the goal line about to score making it a 1 score game. The correct play would have allowed our RB to walk in. But our QB decided to keep it himself and fumbled. Moral victory? Maybe, but who knows how that game ends if we scored there and not fumbled on a rogue play. It was a beautiful sight pushing that Bama defensive line around at will. And let's not forget how the refs literally helped Bama Over and over and over that night. It was and still is sickening. That team should have honestly beaten everyone except Ga and UF.Not sure what you mean by TN competing with Bama up the the end. It was a 15 point spread at the start of the 4th quarter. Y’all aren’t worried but here you are over here on a Vols forum when there’s plenty of Dawg forums out there. Not sure what you mean by TN competing with Bama up the the end. Yep. Like I can imagine what the all time head to head between Ga and Tn would be if Tn hadn’t been bad for 15 + years. Took 3 consecutive wins by Ga to get a 1 game lead. Ga has recruited lights out and has how many championships? Ga fans remind me of Titans fans saying how awesome they are because of that run last year, even though they were 9-7 with no championship. Is there a team with better recruiting than Ga that did nothing with it?There is no melting down or fear. Good for TN on their 2021 commits. If these are highly recruited kids, they will continue to be pursued by the other big boys (UGA, UF, Auburn, Bama, Clemson, etc.). If TN as a promising season, maybe you keep all of them but they don't help in 2020. I keep reading about all the high expectations for this year. Unless I'm wrong, TN finished 2020 with the #10 class. You know who was better than that? Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. Do you know which 3 top 10 teams TN played last year and the results of those games? Here's a hint: they weren't close. All of this TN hype is based on the Vols finishing with 6 consecutive wins (over un-ranked opponents) and a nail-biter over Indiana. (Just imagine the different narrative about TN had the Vols not pulled that one out.).
Also, if you watched the game, which clearly you didn’t, you would have seen that we got hosed on a “personal foul” call cuz Darrel Taylor sacked the QB and basically got up off him in the 3rd quarter and we would have been off the field and trotted the offense out there with a chance to tie the game, Alabama drives down and scores and puts one on the board after that making it that 15 point spread going into the 4th quarter. The rest is history, either way we were far from blown out in that game. If there’s two schools in the SEC that want to see Tennessee stay down is UGA and Alabama. We took two bad Ls last season, no denying that but we should have been a 9-3 football team. What’s funny to me though, you guys all act like your Alabama lite and haven’t won anymore than anybody else in the hardware department, especially Tennessee. Your trophy case is about as empty as ours is. I can talk football with somebody all day long if they’re bringing some solid football debate, doesn’t matter who their team is but at this point, with all the Dawg forums there is and you coming here you do seem a little worried about Tennessee. Let’s face facts, as of right now we are both irrelevant in the CFP scenario but 1980 is a lot longer than 1998.Not sure what you mean by TN competing with Bama up the the end. Yep, that play killed the Tn momentum. How many times have we seen that? Also, if you watched the game, which clearly you didn’t, you would have seen that we got hosed on a “personal foul” call cuz Darrel Taylor sacked the QB and basically got up off him in the 3rd quarter and we would have been off the field and trotted the offense out there with a chance to tie the game, Alabama drives down and scores and puts one on the board after that making it that 15 point spread going into the 4th quarter. That fake roughing the passer call killed us. We had all the momentum, both offense and defense looked great on back to back possessions and their QB was shook. I think we possibly win that game if not for that call. Not even close, the roughing the passer call was much more critical to the outcome of the game. We were getting the ball with a chance to tie the game going into the 4th with all the momentum. All the goal line play did was seal the win for them, Bama was still in control even had we scored then, we were in control had the penalty not been called. The fumble play also likely never happens had that penalty not been called.Deflect deflect deflect. The rogue QB play was the stake in the heart that night.
