Yes Ainge's play was bad . . . sort of like the pick 6 that Clausen threw against ND last year. Get off his case, he's just a kid trying to make a play.

The ND pick was a nervous kid trying to make a play. The endzone cookie toss last night was a frightened kid not having a clue what to do.

Just to clarify, I don't mean to imply that it wasn't a dumb thing to do, but young QBs under pressure in the end zone tend to do stupid things.

...UT vs #1 ND. chuck webb breaking loose late in the game and tries to take it to the house as opposed to taking a knee for the fg attempt. we had that game won!

I'm glad you posted that . . . I've been thinking about that sequence ever since I saw this thread. Ainge's play can't hold a candle to that debacle.
We had 175 yars of total offense that night . . . and actually outgained Alabama. It was butt ugly, and unfotunately I was there.

I think you're remembering the game against #1 Colorado in the pigskin classic. If he had gone out of bounds we may have had an opportunity for a FG. That was the same year we pounded the gators 45-3, lost to 'bama at home 9-6  when we were #3 and they were 2-3 or something like that (incidently, this game was the absolute worst case of Johnny ball EVER), and squandered a chance to beat #1 Notre Dame in the last seconds when Andy Kelly threw the pick by Todd Lyte. The schedule that year was murder. When's the last time we played 2 #1 teams in the same season?
But back on topic, that 'bama game in '90; after dicking around the entire game, 2 yards and a cloud of dust, we lined up to kick the winning field goal with seconds remaining. Bama blocks it, the ball bounces all the way down field into field goal range for them, and they kick the winning field goal. Not necessarily just one play there, but one of the most worst sequence of events I can remember.

our season was then lost.
