Worst memorable play(s) ever?

Always and forever it will be watching our game winning FG attempt against Alabama in 1990 get blocked and shoot backwards 30 yards to set them up for a game winning FG.

I was at the game as well. UT was heavily favored and Bama won 9-6. They were dancing around at mid-field. It was unbelievable.

The Florida TD pass that hit the WR hands and immediately fell to the ground...pre replay days, cost us a game at Neyland.

GA game where we were driving near the goal at the half and a fumble was returned for a TD. I think Casey was QB.

AL game where cody blocked 2 FGs in Turd town. Kiffin coaching.

Oh and Memphis game where returner knee was down but he returned a TD to upset Peyton led Vols in Memphis. Also pre-replay days.

Well...if the after affects of a game's outcome are considered...

I'd have to say Meechem's fumble against LSU in the SECCG in 2001 which cost UT a 2nd chance at a Natty in 3 years (against Miami in the Rose Bowl). The effects of that one haunted Fulmer & Co. for the remainder of his coaching stint at UT and then lead UT through the wilderness of the Kiffin-drama, orange pants and 5-star hearts.

With the other thread stating favorite plays, we need a least favorable plays.

For some of you young whippersnappers it just may be the the Florida Hail Mary against us. I'm sure others, as well.

One that stung me for the longest was the hob nail boot.

That one burned me the most because we had just ran a long screen pass and scored the go ahead touchdown. Then, with only .42 seconds left, Georgia came all the way back. Chavis' prevent defense prevented us from winning (again).

Then there is the Florida ghost TD catch against Fla in 2000 and the sweep stuff with Lewis the year before.

Then, there is this play that still triggers my desire for Majors to leave!

But, the one negative play that I have to say troubles me or has troubled me the most was the two point conversion Bama made against us in '93. I so felt that we were going to finally beat them that year and was excited too. Then, to have them drive almost the entire length of the field to not only score a touchdown but also get the two points was such a downer!

What say ye volnation? What are your most dreaded play(s) that you remember?

Good post. Which Hail Mary Florida game are you referring to? Regretfully we have two to choose from. The GA game hurt too. In addition to Chavis’ defense I blame Phil for calling for a short kick off. That gave GA great field position. Why on earth we didn’t kick it into the end zone - or close is beyond me. In terms of 93 Bama that hurt but I group together all of the pre 1995 games (90-94). They were all ridiculous and we should have won every one of them if not for Johnny and Phil’s ridiculously conservative game plans. I HATE the concept of playing not to lose vs playing to win.

I was also there. Haven’t been to a game in Tuscaloosa since. I wanted to vomit.

This raises another question perhaps in another post. Is it always TN that has bad luck or makes stupid decisions to lose games in the last few seconds (Mostly the FL games - Hail Marys, bad calls, GA game in 01, pig Howard fumble in OT, Bama - letting them score in final seconds, etc). I don’t recall to many of our opponents who have returned the favor by doing something really stupid and giving us a win that should have been s loss. The only one I can think of is the 98 Clint Stoerner fumble. Have there been others or is it usually us grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory?

I've already mentioned Gaffney, but that one is neck and neck with this one.

One costly play where we really were hosed... the 95 yard kickoff return for a TD vs Memphis in 1996. Replays clearly show Kevin Cobb's left forearm touched the ground.
This is probably mine. Cost us a 10-1 regular season and a possible shot in the natl title game.

We went through and have gone through all of those last second losses just to be able to have that Stoerner fumble and the following Henry drive. If not for that, we might have not played in the NC! So, as much as it pains me to say this, I think I might rather have all of those heart breakers for that one lifetime NC!

The 2015 Florida game made me change the way I feel about sports, so I'm definitely gonna say that one.

Easily Corey Anderson's fumble falling into the endzone and then losing 6-3 to Bama. He's a massive guy. All he had to do was fall into the endzone with his back turned.

Year Peyton was up on Florida at half and we fumbled, fumbled and fumbled to start second half to get blown out.

The blocked FG against Bama in 1990 that traveled almost the length of the field and Bama were able to hit the game winning FG at the buzzer...I still get mad thinking about that play.

I listened to that one on the radio. I was so heartbroken.
