Worst Coach Ever?

Once again, comparing former coaches to an active one 16 games into his tenure here. Not exactly equal.

Let’s compare then, Butch’s first 16 games against Pruitt’s first 16 games

First year Butch goes 5-7 with a win over #11 South Carolina, going into his second year he goes 2-2 in the first four games, against much harder competition, so after his first 16 games Butch is 7-9.

First year Pruitt goes 5-7, ok so we’re tied so far. With wins over #11 UK and #21 Auburn. Nice wins. Going into his second year after the first four games he goes 1-3, against much easier competition. After his first 16 games, Pruitt is 6-10.

Already he is behind Butch in terms of wins, and his first four games this year is nothing compared to what Butch’s team faced in his first four games in his second year. Pruitt’s schedule doesn’t get any easier either.

Pruitt had an easy path to 3-1, and with how bad Florida has played he could’ve had a possible 4-0 start had he actually developed his players and not stuck with a lame duck QB.

Right now he’s staring down the barrel of 1-11, and if we go 1-11 I highly doubt he gets a third year.

Sanest comparison I’ve seen all day.

Good job. You can’t judge whole tenures vs active coaches.

While the wins and losses thru 16 games are close, it will be interesting to compare the two after 2 seasons.

You need to go back and watch Butch Jones coached teams, the east was TERRIBLE and we were giving away games with Butch Jones recruited players. It's more of the same, this is not a grass is greener situation. Dooley Butch and Pruitt have all been sub tier hires for an SEC school of UTs caliber. Dooley not head coach material, Butch doesn't belong anywhere near the SEC, and Pruitt literally his first HC gig ever.

I still believe Pruitt is going to coach through contract because Fulmer thinks he can mold this guy into something, or maybe there is a huge disagreement and fallout and it ends quickly. Fulmer and money will make the decision not the fans and not the WL record.

Do you think this team would have lost to Georgia State with Butch as coach? Seriously.

That would have never happened. Butch had been a head coach before and it shows when comparing the two.

Pruitt's "redeeming qualities" are simply not showing up. I don't see a recruiting boost or much improvement on defense

And that has zero to do with his tenure at UT
So first 16 games then.

He went 9-7 (3-6 SEC). Finished 1-7 in the SEC in year 2.
Lyle went 7-9 (2-7 SEC). Finished 3-5 in the SEC year 2.
Pruitt 6-10 (2-7 SEC). Likely to go 0-8 in the SEC year 2.

Yes this exact team coached under Butch Jones would be 1-3, a Dobbs Hurd Kamara team would be 3-1. QB situation is that bad, defense is stupid young. Our only chance this season is to get Maurer practicing with the 1s and finding chemistry with Jennings and Callaway.

So all things being "equal," Pruitt is STILL the worst

Thru 16 games? Yeah. But in terms of their tenures which is what the thread is about, the jury is still out until Pruitt is no longer the coach here whenever that may be

Lol, thought so.

I can lower it too. $5? $1?

There was no bet made.... once again, unless you are saying right now you know how the season will end, you’re just blowing smoke.

Find it funny that folks on here who “guarantee” what will and won’t happen are often folks still living in the poor houses cause they can’t use their infinite knowledge to win the lotto

Butch Jones built up the roster then allowed it to fall apart. Jones would have a similar record with our current team. We went over a year without a dedicated strength and conditioning coach. Also Jones’s teams had several NFL players; I’m struggling to find any on Pruitt’s team.

I'm willing to bet $1K (or even $1), are you?

Pretty happy with my career and lifestyle, not in the "poor house" by any means. We can compare if you'd like...

Never said anything about the lotto...but that's a convenient excuse. Put up or shut up.

Pruitt is the worst head coach.

BJ is the worst at talent evaluation and development.

Dooley simply didn’t understand you needed talent.

I seriously believe that Doofy is a better “game day” “on the field” coach than either of the other two.

Once again, you’re guaranteeing what will and won’t happen..... let me know when you win lotto, hit a 14 team parlay, or stop the next major disaster.

And there is no reason for me to make a bet given the probabilities. That doesn’t mean I have a poor opinion of what I think will or won’t happen, but why bet with bad odds?

That’s dumb and moronic. Just like parading around claiming to know the future.

Butch will forever be the worst coach here. Especially worse than Dooley. Pruitt is still the coach and you can’t label someone the worst, or even best, ever until after they are gone.

Saban is the best Alabama coach ever and he's still coaching them.

It was the worst season. But at a point Butch had us playing quite well. The improvement from 2013 to 2016 was significant. Butch looked like he actually had a game plan - sometimes it was terrible, but sometimes it was pretty good. I have yet to see UT under Pruitt look even remotely close to as competent as a BJ team. The guy had cheesy slogans and what not, but there was a point when he was hauling in top 5 recruiting classes. I've yet to see Pruitt crack a top 10 recruiting class and that was supposed to be one of the two allegedly good things about him, 'cruitin and defense. As of right now, Pruitt can't hold Butch's jock and THAT is effing sad.
Great post and great analysis. Thanks for sharing

I'm not claiming to "know" the future or guarantee a damn thing, it's just an opinion like yours. I'm just willing to put some capital on it.

Never said I was trying to solve the worlds problems (and I don't play the lotto, nor do I need to) by any means. And any bet I've made here, I've wanted the winnings to go to St. Jude.

It's easy to talk, but being willing to back it is a different story. I knew you weren't going to take a bet, even for a penny.

Yes because in betting, you have to look at probabilities. And given the current odds, I’d be dumb to make a bet. I’m not running a soup kitchen.
