If Saban leaves tonight, Bama's first call is to Dabo.....and it goes like this:

"Dabo, how would you like to be a bazillionaire?"

If Pruitt bailed in year 1, he would owe us a lot of money (buyout works both ways)... Money we could use to lure another good coach away with. It would suck, but wouldn't be the end of the world.

I reckon the main thing is then, does AD Phil know about this? If someone has his number, post it and I'll call and tell him so he's not caught off guard. He needs to be in know don't you think?

Gotta love the internet. Rumors get life. I doubt Saban is headed to the NFL at his age but if there was anything at all to this, Bama would have told Pruitt to stick around 'cause he was the heir apparent to take over. This ain't happenin'

He makes more than any NFL coach now and answers to nobody, well unless the NCAA comes asking about the Land Rovers.
Anyway if this worst case scenario happens, I vote we just hire anybody cheap and serve free beer at Neyland which instantly makes Tennessee the best venue in sports period!!

CJP would be crazy to follow Saban that quickly.

In fact he’d be better off all around to let someone else follow Saban as they will undoubtedly fall short of expectations. Then, step in as the guy that follows the guy that wasn’t Saban.

I can't see it being bad for us if Saban leaves Bama, no matter how many of our coaches they take.

Shoot man. That money Pruitt would pay us would go straight to Butch and co's buyout.

1. Saban isn't leaving until retirement

2. I like our new coach and all, but he is way down the list at this time. No way bama hires an unproven head coach.

With Saban's history in the NFL I doubt he would go. A mans ego can make him do foolish things.

So there are rumors that Saban is considering going back to the NFL for the NY Giants job.

Was actor/comedian Tom Arnold (gasp) right about Nick Saban and the Giants?

If this is true, I think a worst case for TN is Saban leaves after the CFB playoffs, and Bama gets CJP to come back home to Bama as their HC.

You know he would take it. We would then be left again without a head coach just a few weeks before National signing day.....

Hope this doesn't happen but its a risk when you hire a Bama grad and Saban likely only has a limited time left at Bama. Someone will need to replace him.

Of course if Bama steals CJP 5 or 6 years down the road and CJP has a chance to rebuild TN first - fine. But if it happens in a similar way to Kiffin - only a year or two in to the rebuild - it could crush us again...

Saban will retire at Bama, He wants nothing to do with the NFL. He has nothing to prove in the NFL. This is a useless conversation!

Alabama can hire anyone they want, they don't want Pruitt right now. He is completely unproven Bama can't afford to take that chance!

Yeah, the rumor in that article says Saban would be gone to the Giants but for Bama making the playoffs. Its just rumors, but it is a nightmare situation for TN if it happened. You know Bama would be attracted to CJP given his bama ties.

I am pretty sure Bama is not paying the buyout for someone who has never been more than an assistant coach in his life!

Well, if that happens, we will have lots of money to hire the very best coach available in the next off-season. I am not in the least worried that this would happen.

Now, 3 or 4 years from now? That's a different story...but at least he will have been very successful before they would hire him.
