Worst basketball team since

Another narrative is that the SEC is garbage this year. But the first 10 or so are probably locks if they played in lessor conferences. It's really more balanced than garbage with fewer legit top 5 contenders.
Man I can't count the number of horrible loses by SEC teams. This has been the worst non-conference performance in years. Hopefully our league has improved enough to hang with the Big 12 this weekend to save some face.

Barnes is the head coach and should be held accountable. He is primarily responsible for putting a quality basketball team on the court and is paid handsomely to do so. Now, he's not gonna be fired obviously because he has built up equity and is a proven winner. I think Barnes realizes his errors and has hit the recruiting trail hard to correct this.

Agree with your overall take...CRB is clearly accountable but not sure how some want him to be "held accountable". What does this mean (e.g., is calling him out on VN enough "accountability")?

IMO, Barnes is not happy with the current situation and is working to right the ship. The lackluster 2017 class is largely predicated on the perception of the program when CRB took over and the lack of success his first 2 seasons when the "cupboard" was largely bare.

I do think it is fair game to seriously question the decision to take only 1 player for the 2018 class.

I wish that the Barnes took 2 years off from recruiting narrative would go away. Basilio promotes that in every show I've heard him spew. CRB took the long view and hit homeruns with Springer, Johnson, and Walker. JJJ, Vescovi, and Uros could end up being great additions as well. Took a shot at Blackshear and a few other highly ranked additions that decided to go with other opportunities. Every year the recruits have varying levels of talent and interest. 4-stars (maybe even some high 3-stars) in one year might be much better than lots of 5-stars in other years. The blue bloods don't reload with an equal number of players each year. He added others that were available and they weren't all perfect fits. Several were. Who are all these other diamonds in the rough that Barnes failed miserably attempting to sign? What great grad transfers wanted to come to TN? What star players now on other teams wanted to come to TN?
Amen -- can I say that?/
-- never listened to basilio. did read lot about while pondering whether to wade into VN

Sure is if one ignores recruiting timelines and certain facts. Honest question, what exactly does "being held accountable" mean to you and what should happen to CRB (same question to @Alex10)?
What I mean by it is I’m just tired of all the excuse making for the guy. Yes I understand some of the unforeseen stuff I get it. To me being held accountable just simply means owning up to your mistakes. The constant excuse making for him doesn’t come off that way. We all want the same thing because we all love our vols and I do like the guy and hope next year is a really good year but as far as this year goes? Your not getting your moneys worth.

Agree we all want our Vols to be great and, while this year is disappointing compared to the last couple of years, it is not surprising which is they key point I am trying to make.

Therefore, I am not trying to be difficult or give you a hard time but, based on your reply, it seems you are trying to hold CRB accountable for what certain posters are saying on a message board. It also seems that you are confusing context and facts provided by posters as excuse making when every post I have seen has consistently said CRB is responsible and accountable for the results on the court "period" which includes how he recruits.

Back to my question for what does being held accountable mean...based on your reply you are looking for CRB to go on the record and own up to "his mistakes" so my next question is how does that public admission help our Vols? Do you have any comparable examples of other power 5 conference coaches doing this and, if so, how did it help their program?

I’m not trying to hold Barnes himself accountable, I can’t do that. In the context of being held accountable I am more referring to the fanbase community on this site. By that I just mean I think fans should expect better than this. At the same time I’m not calling for the guys head, just seems like some are ok with this product because of this that or the other. While a lot of the points are valid I still don’t believe it excuses the overall product on the court. That’s just my opinion and I’m ok with it not being exactly like everyone else’s:)

Not sure how you come to that conclusion, but ok.
Clearly if we played in the AAC we would have more conference games under our belt so I said it half kidding but we have played 2 AAC teams this year I believe in Memphis and Cincy and we are 0-2 against them. I was also exaggerating when I said we have a division 2 roster. We have a sub par division 1 roster. Hope I’m wrong, I’d love to be.

Pretty effing bad.

Senior guard with awful back to back turnovers in first half. Also went 1 for 3 from the line around the same time.

Pons passes up wide open shots.

Rebounding sucked.

Someone on here told me this team would get better. Dont remember who.

Interesting no bump after the Kansas game.

Was I supposed to shout moral victory?
Quite a few on here do. I know you were being sarcastic but sadly many really do get their jollies off moral victories. It’s the loser mentality that has culminated over the past 15 years of just pure **** in all of our major sporting teams.
