Worst basketball team since

Sure is if one ignores recruiting timelines and certain facts. Honest question, what exactly does "being held accountable" mean to you and what should happen to CRB (same question to @Alex10)?
Barnes is the head coach and should be held accountable. He is primarily responsible for putting a quality basketball team on the court and is paid handsomely to do so. Now, he's not gonna be fired obviously because he has built up equity and is a proven winner. I think Barnes realizes his errors and has hit the recruiting trail hard to correct this.

Wisconsin wasn't a bad loss? Losing at home to a team that has a worse record
Have you seen the teams Wisconisn has wins over the last couple of weeks? Ohio State and Maryland: both top 25 wins. So I'd say Wisconsin wasn't a bad loss

I didn't see that. Just their record. I guess UT doesn't have a bad loss then

I wish that the Barnes took 2 years off from recruiting narrative would go away. Basilio promotes that in every show I've heard him spew. CRB took the long view and hit homeruns with Springer, Johnson, and Walker. JJJ, Vescovi, and Uros could end up being great additions as well. Took a shot at Blackshear and a few other highly ranked additions that decided to go with other opportunities. Every year the recruits have varying levels of talent and interest. 4-stars (maybe even some high 3-stars) in one year might be much better than lots of 5-stars in other years. The blue bloods don't reload with an equal number of players each year. He added others that were available and they weren't all perfect fits. Several were. Who are all these other diamonds in the rough that Barnes failed miserably attempting to sign? What great grad transfers wanted to come to TN? What star players now on other teams wanted to come to TN?

Maybe saying he took off 2 years from recruiting isn’t fair but it darn sure is fair to say he missed more times that he needed to in those 2 years

What's going to be funny is not holding on to Burns because he was a fat boy and Burns ends up dancing while we're watching. Big Joe has Winthrop in.

Could have loaded up the roster and not had spots available for the great ones that are starting to roll in. Priorities have changed from the initial process. Bodies were needed at first and the signees were less than ideal. Now it's developing into more of a reloading with very highly rated recruits as spots become available. Relationships with recruits are routinely now developed over 5 or 6 years. It's kind of silly to expect perfect results in the first several years. Especially when a just fired, older coach is following the Pearl/Cuonzo/Donnie fecal blizzard.

Another narrative is that the SEC is garbage this year. But the first 10 or so are probably locks if they played in lessor conferences. It's really more balanced than garbage with fewer legit top 5 contenders.

And if Burns was run for being fat, it was because of his dedication and work ethic when dealing with it. Fat, slightly tall guys can excel in the mid-major conferences. It's not so simple in the P-5/6s.

Would have made more sense to see if he could compete at 260 before cutting the cord. We still don't have any inside presence to speak of and it's getting late.
Incidently 3 of Burns best games this year were against Duke, St Mary's and ETSU so he just might have handled the SEC.

I'm not going to question the Hall of Famer's decision. He has all of the facts. I don't. Chemistry, the inability to mature at an adequate pace, attitude, and the longer view could be more important than the immediate benefits of having a young fat guy in the paint.

The Hall of Famer's facts haven't been too kind to him this season. Turner, Plavsic etc etc.

Also, being told to leave could have been the event that motivated Burns to stop being an idjit. He possibly needed an actual wake up call to get his attention instead of threats.

That's possible too. Just have to pull for Uros to get in the groove and maybe help thru the gauntlet.

What is the better coaching move? Retain Burns and have him be the upperclassman leader setting a poor example for JJJ, KJ, Springer, and Walker or go ahead and cut bait after the kid failed to hold up his end of the deal? Barnes doesn't make decisions based on low info, high emotions like the VN posters and Basilio callers do.

Even the comments Burns made as he was leaving sounded like a 180 from the reports of his attitude while here. The way that Barnes handled the transition likely had a lot to do with Burns being more successful at his next stop. Barnes cares for his guys and most likely gave him some life altering advice along with his walking papers. I hope that Walker's move was onward and upward as well and he won't be another casualty like Kwe.

Other considerations relating to the apparent decisions by Barnes to move on from Burns and Walker... where did ORN's recruitment fall on the timelines? What was expected on the Uros situation? How real were the Zach Kent reports? How apparent were Fulkerson's and Pons' improvement? How done of a deal was Blackshear? The pieces were moving all over the board as was managing open spots for the 3 2020 recruits.

Burns wasn’t run for being fat, he was trimmed way down when he left UT.

Yes he was. But since leaving he's back to 260+ or bigger. You know how Barnes felt about Admiral and Grant's weight. I'd rather believe they didn't see eye to eye about his weight than the BS that was put out there about drugs. And makes more sense since he was able to play without sitting a year.
