Anybody got a good idea on what to snack on at work to keep the muscle growing and the fat off?

cottage cheese, peaches, strawberries and pistachios in a bowl. chicken breast and a banana. eggs for breakfast......whey protein....whey protein.....natural peanut butter.....wheat bread........avacados......stuff like that.

cool just the info I needed....thoughts on creatin? I am 40, so am I wasting my time trying to grow muscle mass?

Cell Tech is great in my opinion. Instant gains in strength, and you can gain up to 7 lbs in a wk. Good product. I have the grape flavor, and i take it w/ grape gatorade. it's strong, but it's not that bad.

Do you do your pull ups with a wide grip or basically shoulder width. I typically have my hands no wider than shoulder width. Wide for the lats, and close for middle back and thicker back is what I read.

i usually just do them shoulder width.

The problem with Cell Tech is that it contains 75 grams of sugar per serving. Team that up with 20 ounces of Gatorade and you are taking in over 100 grams of sugar. That is essentially just a sugar rush. A little bit of simple sugar is fine early in the morning or after workouts because it will allow your body to metabolize proteins at a quicker pace, but that is a little overkill. I used to take it but my body was holding too much water because of the stuff. Now I just take Whey protein, Casein protein, NaNo Vapor, and Anabolic Halo. For some reason, I'm having a ton of issues cutting off fat from my problem areas. I don't need to cut down on my food intake because I still have trouble taking in over 2k calories a day. I don't know if I'm eating too little, not doing enough cardio or possibly overworking. I work out 5 days a week and do cardio everyday. I do some core everyday since your ab muscles are tertiary and can be worked every day without danger of being overworked.

i don't drink 20 oz gatorades. honestly it's maybe 10 oz, just so i can down it, then i follow that w/ a 20 oz water.

do you do intervals during your cardio, or do u just run same pace for 30 mins.

It depends. I do HIIT for around 20 minutes some days, others I just walk on a steep incline for 30 minutes at a pretty steady pace. I think I'm gonna start doing more HIIT, though. 10 ounces of Gatorade still has about 17 or so grams of sugar.

I drink around a gallon of water a day, though I don't think I've been drinking enough for the amount of protein I take in. I'm getting plenty of gains in mass, so maybe I'm taking in too many carbs.

i'm actually cutting some fat. only thing i drink is one glass of grape juice in the morning, probably a gallon of water, and then 10 oz of gatorade. for as much as i do, it's not that bad really. cell tech just tastes like butt w/out gatorade.

Are you in a phase, warrior? Do you have a bulk phase, then a cut phase?.......it sucks that we can't combine them....unless someone knows how.....:crossfingers:

Good on doing core every day. I hate to pimp my own stuff, but everybody needs to go back and read and reread my post last page. Things like creatine and protein are for building which is distinctively different from cutting. Fact is you are not going to cut a significant amount of body fat percentage during a building phase, so don't even waste your time trying. If you're taking in lots of protein and mass-adding supplements, you're simply wasting your time doing cardio 5 days a week.

I get my tips on cutting body fat percentage, because they know how to do it better than anyone. Cliff notes version: Limit strength reps (less of five-rep sets, more 12-15 rep sets), do plenty of cardio. HIIT helps. EAT IN SMALL PORTIONS ONLY WHEN YOU ARE HUNGRY. Make sure it's organic food, and limit your protein intake. What meat you do get, make sure it's lean.

It's impossible to do both at the same time effectively. I've read about many dozens of attempts from people trying to cut and build simeltaneously. At best, they have resulted in only moderate mass gains and fat loss. And this is not "in your spare time" type stuff, these guys were inundated trying to do this.

The 12-15 rep (less weight more reps) thing is a myth. The best way to lift is the maximum weight you can handle while keeping proper form and going to failure.

Maximum weight would be a one rep max. If you're doing a standard muscle building number of reps (Usually five) then that's less than your maximum. So that's kind of an inaccurate statement. The part that is right is lifting to failure, which should be done any set of any workout. But how many reps to do is kind of subjective, and can have different results. Point being there is no "best way" to lift.

Maximum weight meaning the most you can do, based on a one rep max. And yes there is a "best way" to lift.

Okay, a few questions Milo. Would drastically cutting out calories not slow my metabolism down quite a bit? Also, the protein shakes only contain 1.5 grams of fat. Should I still cut them out while I'm on a cutting cycle? I'm not asking if it is okay to drink 3 a day but if I don't have anything that is low fat, high protein for dinner, can I sub one in? If it isn't too much trouble, could you give me a list of stuff to eat? It seems like I should eat mostly whole grain carbs and veggies with a little lean protein, right?

I think the best system of lifting is the one that you actually do. same with an excercise machine, the best one is the one that you actually use. There are alot of soloflexes with about 4 inches of dust on them.

That's hilarious, but true. My dad bought a bowflex about 10 years and his literally used it 10 times. Now it's in the attic. My brother and I give him a hard time about it often.

Lean protein and monounsaturated fats are fine. Also realize that most protein shakes I've seen are relatively high in saturated fat, even more so when made with milk, which is a lot of what I've seen with people trying to build.

My overall message is to get a balanced diet of natural foods, and not to eat in large portions. If you eat in smaller portions, your body will metabolize whatever it takes in, and get more effective at the process as time goes on. I refer to the people I've talked to who have wrestled for years. All of them I know still eat a regular 1500-2000 calorie diet with some junk mixed in, and manage to stay pretty lean (though not ripped up) while barely making any sort of effort to exercise. The other ones I know binge on food and alcohol regularly and are only kinda chubby, but not really.

That's what I was already eating, just occasionally (once a week) I'd eat junk. Most of the protein I was taking in was in the form of protein shakes. Those shakes consist of Optimum Nutrition Whey/Casein protein and water. Those contain 1.5 grams of fat, less than most lean meats. I understand cutting out Nano Vapor and Anabolic Halo since both are bulking products. I started the "cutting diet" yesterday and limited myself to about 1k calories and my head has been hurting with the lack of calories. I guess it my body just needs to time to adjust to it. I already was eating small meals but most were high in protein.

1k calories is pretty extreme, unless you weigh 120lbs. Go find out your base metabolic rate if you're curious. You should still eat sufficiently to keep energy levels up. You still need protein too, but not the amounts you'd normally take to build muscle. Try and get it from things like beans and poultry first.

Like I said, small portions when you get hungry. It pretty much guarantees that you will be burning more calories than you take in, which results in weight loss.
