WNBA discussion thread?

He has a choice in offloading superstar players like Reese in order to avoid paying her a supermax salary of over $1mm next year. Their owner is notorious for wanting to spend the least. Many former Sky players say it wasn’t a great experience there. They have horrible facilities as well that he doesn’t want to invest in until forced by the league. I mean they practice at a rec center and share lockers with the public there. They are supposed to be building a practice facility that was built for them (not by them), but it’s not ready yet. They operate on a really low budget, and that is the way Alter appears to want it. They have a lot of issues there with ownership, marketing, and revenue. One of the minority owners is suing Alter. I would not be surprised if the league ends up stepping in and forcing a sale. Chicago deserves much better.
This makes me sad. I want so much better for Rickea. 💔

Looking and listening around to the WNBA rumors sites, this may have actually been at Rickeas' request. Her fit in Robert's system has apparently been an issue, though not anything contentious. I think they both tried but Roberts is just never going to be amenable to a mid range game She's one of those analytical absolutists on offense.

Actually it's probably a good thing that Sparks did not get Paige because like Rickea the mid range is where she thrives. It was so beautiful to watch in unrivaled.

Apparently it's pretty much set that Azura is going back to Chicago so that probably solidified Rickeas decision. A couple of other wild rumors, one that LA is clearing the decks to get Satou Sably who refused to sign with Phoenix. Also that Hamby will be going to Dallas to reunite with Curt Miller.

Big question is what else the Sparks get from this because everyone agrees they would never flat out give up Rickea for Ariel Atkins The Sky does have the 5th draft pick this year and it's reasonable to think they also gave the Sparks at least that.

Now hearing Skylar Diggins is close to signing with the Sky and that they are hoping to draft Flau J. Now that's a team taking shape.

Also rumors of Nneka to the Sparks. Definitely would not want Rickea hunting for shots among Plum Hamby and Nneka

I agree, but dang. I have never liked Chicago, not even when my she-ro Candace was there. I only ever watched the Sky for Candace, and even then only for the playoffs and championships. The idea of our Rickea slumming it in a franchise that doesn't even have their own facilities to practice or even have a private locker room is just awful. Yuck!

Actually, this Sky is ahead of the sparks with their new training facility

Nneka Back to LA is official now. Also Sparks being an older team is official now Feel kinda bad for Rae and Cam, though I suspect Rae may still get traded.

Rickea leaving makes much more sense now, Though the sparks have to be getting something for her in addition to AA. And after my initial horrified reaction , I'm happy I won't have to see her standing in the corner waiting for Roberts and Plum to allow her to shoot a three anymore. Reportedly the Sky GM has always been **** he let himself get talked out of drafting Rickea in the first place and believes in her full game which Roberts did not, This can be a good move for her, esp if Azura goes with and they bring oother good players.

Sky's new facility is supposed to be ready later this year.

The facility should be ready in June, certain parts will be accessible, but they will practice in the Wintrust Sports Complex, which is on the same grounds. They won’t have to practice in that rec center anymore.

Good indicator if he was high on her initially.

If the rebuild in Chicago does indeed produce some of the players that are being mentioned, it could be a valued landing spot. I haven’t loved how they handled their players historically based on player feedback but the new facilities etc could be a new leaf.

She’s talented enough and a competitor, I hope to see her thrive

No problem with Sky it’s sloot😆..i remember it was some issues in New York that’s why she came back so now yes recover just hope her n Sky can mesh if she decides to sign there
Shes almost 40 coming off an ACL injury, if she wasn’t Jeff’s best friend she wouldn’t even have a job this season. No other team is signing an almost 40 year old coming off that injury.

She just turned 37, son the grand scheme of cosmic yeah, that is close to 40 but in basketball years she is not quite there. Durant is 37 and Steph Curry is 38 so pros still have some life.

She is an experienced locker room leader type so there is some value but the ACL is the wildcad She is 9 months off the injury and a full recovery usually takes longer than that. Cam Brink was on a similar time-line and missed the first of the half season and only played limited minutes from there on out.

Not to mention the disparity of age between her and Cam…
