WNBA discussion thread?

Oh no. Horrible for her.

Also giving up Rickea for Ariel Atkins is insane. Makes me wonder at the veracity of this though constable is usually a reliable source.
The irony is that Rickea was originally projected to the pick for the sky who instead went for Kamillo Cardosa.

Rickea now slots into the Angel Reese. That is probably the better fit for her.

Looks like a roster shake-up in LA is underway. Julie Allemand and Sarah Ashlee Barker were taken in the expansion draft (Allemand is the big loss I think).

So are the Sparks building around Brink, Plum, Hamby, Vanloo and mayby Burrell? I think Rae may be on the trading block for draft picks.

Still gotta tank for juju🤧

It also puts Rickea closer to home, which may be a factor. Along that line, Rickea is also now in need of constant extra security, and unfortunately, that might be a factor for some organizations. I’m curious if Azura Stevens might also play a part in this trade. But the sparks have to be getting more than washed up aerial Atkins.

I agree I think Rae may be the Sparks best trade bait. This might all be a move to confirm the sparks as plum and hambys team. Truthfully, there was sometimes a lack of shots to be had for RJ with those two out there.

I just thank God angel is gone. Would really be tough for me with them on the same team.

if Azura goes also that makes much more sense. Rickea definitely needs Z by her side this year. And Jackie Young hell yeah now we’re talking. throw in a point guard and that’s quite a lineup.

but what the hell are the sparks even doing? There has to be more in it for them.

I think this is the year for Rickea to be an All-Star, she’s on a team that will prioritize her offensive game ,and the ALL-Star game being in Chicago will also give her a boost.

I could be wrong but I took that post to mean LA tanking for JuJu.
Oh ok. Not sure how Kelsey Plum would feel about it though.

The more I think about it, the more I think it might be about offensive fit for Rickea. But I still can't imagine the sparks doing it just to get AA. There just has to be more

I keep hearing their owner does not want to spend money to build a roster that can contend and has no interest in taking care of the players there. Lots of pressure for him to sell and relocate.
He doesn’t have a choice, u have a minimal spend u have to do, they’re forced to build a roster.

If they're talking Rickea and Jackie Young they're not tanking for ****.
They can’t tank, they need to make the playoffs and I think they will. The Mystics own a pick swap with them for 2027, so if they miss the playoffs and get the number 1 pick, the Mystics will take it. That’s why they’re being aggressive in free agency.

Not owning their pick doesn't necessarily mean they need to make the playoffs. If they and the Mystics are the two worst teams, Chicago would still get the #2 pick

Just realized Latricia Trammell is on the Sky staff. She was on the Sparks staff last year and Rickea really hit it off with her.

Rickea is never going to be the three pt shooter Roberts wants her to be, and she's never going to get enough shots up consistently with Plum and Hamby around. Move to a more mid range friendly coach would make sense. I just hope the Sky gets some more decent players because that team was truly awful last year While the sparks were on the rise.

If Rickea is gone, it could mean a starting spot for Rae.

The Sky will have the best odds, because it’s a 2 year thing, also the expansion teams will be included, the Mystics had a decent record and will probably get the 5th pick even if they miss the playoffs.

He has a choice in offloading superstar players like Reese in order to avoid paying her a supermax salary of over $1mm next year. Their owner is notorious for wanting to spend the least. Many former Sky players say it wasn’t a great experience there. They have horrible facilities as well that he doesn’t want to invest in until forced by the league. I mean they practice at a rec center and share lockers with the public there. They are supposed to be building a practice facility that was built for them (not by them), but it’s not ready yet. They operate on a really low budget, and that is the way Alter appears to want it. They have a lot of issues there with ownership, marketing, and revenue. One of the minority owners is suing Alter. I would not be surprised if the league ends up stepping in and forcing a sale. Chicago deserves much better.

He’ll have to pay either Rickea or Cardoso Supermax money in 2 years. They also are almost finished building the largest facility in the WNBA, yes the minority owner is suing him, but none of the others are. I don’t worry about rich people fighting over control and money.

Here a few pics of the facility, it should be done in about a month.
