WNBA discussion thread?

My understanding is the increase in the number of concussion protocols this season is a new preventative measure the league is taking, the number of actually diagnosed concussions hasn't increased
I just checked on this (see link below). It appears that this protocol went into effect for the 2012 season and that change did lead to an immediate increase in reported cases. However, this more recent uptick over the last 3 years is probably due an actual increase in the injury rate.

Bring a reference. Way too many Facebook facts floating around up in here…
No references, I just know that there are more concussion protocols this year without an increase in publicly named (I shouldn't say diagnosed) concussions. I also know the league is trying to crack down on landing space fouls this season and I don't have a reference for that either (nor would I say they are cracking down successfully lol). I get if it sounds like a Facebook rumor, though that sounds like a really boring rumor.

I read on Facebook that we all live in a simulation, so does any of this matter?

Went to my first Connecticut Sun game last night for Pride night. Rivers on defense is electric! I hope she can fix her shot and she'll be a really good W player. Morrow seems to be improving, but she did most of her damage against Dallas's small lineup - still not sure what her future looks like going against other bigs (or if she can make the transition to being a 3).

It felt more like a Dallas home game, with fans even screaming "Let's go Paige" to try to drown out the "Let's go Sun" cheer.

Fever is self destructing. Coach has taken two or three leaves already. Assistant coach has left I believe. Top signed player is missing from team without explanation.

I’m not going to publicly speculate, but I have some private thoughts about what could be at the root of all the personal drama going on.

How about the Mystics getting the win against the Lynx tonight? Yeah, the Lynx were without Collier, but still that had to feel good for those Washington players and fans.

And Dallas beat the Atlanta Dream. Griner only managed to score 2 points in 18 minutes. She got 6 rebounds, but Dallas' Li Yueru owned the boards in getting 15 and then 10 points.

I've never said this anywhere, but even though Griner has always been an all-Star and has been an Olympian, I still feel like her career was less dominating than I anticipated it would be coming out of college. I figured once she reached the pros and was surrounded by other dominant players it would just take her up another few notches.

But she never became, as I once predicted, "the most dominant player in American women's basketball." And really, I think she ended up being just a tad too slow. The muscles in those long arms and legs must have a significantly higher ratio of slow-twitch fibers than fast-twitch. She's had plenty of brilliant moments, but never became an unstoppable force. I really thought she would. But that's life. You don't know what could happen until ya live it!

WNBA is again, unwatchable. Sad.

The way games are officiated, the level of play when starters leave the game and the constant drama are a turnoff.

Pretty sad because there was a huge opportunity to champion WBB the last two years but they screwed the pooch instead.
You didn’t run out and get a “Sophie” jersey? 🤙🏼😉

BG’s effort level is a major roller coaster, takes many plays off and now several games off.

Thats misleading. Coach has a close family member in hospice. “Top” signed player was a big mistake by the fo as many called out when it happened. Bonners on the downhill ride and never was a good fit. They don’t need or miss her. Don’t know anything about the asst, doubt it matters.

Most importantly, the Fever looked strong against the top 3 Storm team without CC who is in the shooting slump of her career and setting turnover records. Boston has bounced back fm a bad last season and is having a great year.

In the Tennessee-SC game I'd say Cardoso hit that shot over our coaching staff, not Rickea, since Rickea was apparently directed where to stand for that travesty. 😩
Ugh. Perfect sword in the gut moment in another terrible Sparks loss. Everything we feared about Roberts and her college oriented “system”, and esp fears about Plum as lead guard has come true.

In their 11 losses, they’ve only been blown out twice. Led by double digits for 3 qtrs last night and then when Sky rallied in the 4th, the usual plan for Plum hero ball went into effect and they lost by double digits.

It’s a problem we’ve talked about regarding Coop and the LVs. Yes you’re the player who can “put the team on your back” but you also have to know when the piggyback ride needs to be over. Azura had an absolutely great first half, but got very few touches the second half and virtually none late when the game was close. Dont get me started about Rickea who played 35 mins but didn’t sniff the ball once AGAIN during the crucial fourth qtr.

Whatever the systems supposed to be it’s laughably unimaginative and predi. When Rickea does get a touch, it’s literally always in the same spot on the perimeter via a handoff. She posts, but even against smaller platers s ignored. And in case we forget good ole Mike Neighbors and his weird ass rebound system which frequently just concedes rebounds and retreats. That’s why RJ gets so few rebounds.

Kamilla had a career game bc the Sparks have no center. Also Angel is coming along so well taking advantage of her incredible motor and the skills she does have.

Depressing that the Sparks are the only young team going backwards. It’s very clear Roberts is in far over her head.

The W reffing problem also rolls on. Rickea, yes the one who grabbed the rebound and is underneath the obvious over the back, got called for the common foul here!

Apparently called for RJ removing Allens arm from her recently concussed face. Then Allen got in Rickea face and she barked back and both got techs. This is an example of how the right call to begin with stops trouble

Btw, RJ initiated a brief hug w AR after the game, bursting a million social media narratives.

The W injury nightmare rolls on. Now Jonquil Jones and Marina Mabry are out for extended periods.

Direct result of officials having no control over the game and no care for players health. Basketball is a contact sport, yes, but the “physicality” allowed in the W makes it an entirely different game. It’s damaging the product because the stars are frequently injured causing them to miss games or play poorly.

Many of the top players have complained this season and there has been no adjustment. I know everyone has CC fatigue but the amount of contact allowed on her as the Fever primary ball handler is unacceptable. She’s defended different than any other player in the league and should be officiated different as well.

It doesn’t matter that she’s defended differently. Just officiate the current rules. Consistently. Across the league. It ain’t rocket science. CC may wind up with 30-40 FTs per game and 3-4 players on the opposing team fouling out, but the league would eventually get the message.
