I just checked on this (see link below). It appears that this protocol went into effect for the 2012 season and that change did lead to an immediate increase in reported cases. However, this more recent uptick over the last 3 years is probably due an actual increase in the injury rate.My understanding is the increase in the number of concussion protocols this season is a new preventative measure the league is taking, the number of actually diagnosed concussions hasn't increased
