Winter Storm

I went into Home Depot and asked the rentals folks if they had any returned generators since a lot of people are getting their power back on. The associate said he had 1, so I took it. Now I’m fueling up two little generators, hoping to get the house warmer tonight. Waking up every 3 hours to refuel, but at least I get to stay at home and watch basketball. One generator for the heat. The other for the refrigerator, internet, and one other device (currently the tv).

My neighborhood of about 1500 is fairly deserted. I haven’t seen anyone since this morning. But like I told my wife, it’s like camping for me. Every now and then I think I’m living the movie “I Am Legend”. 😆
Hopefully without the vampires.

The last big snow we had felt like 30 Days of Night lol

We live in the rural part of Davidson Co. and no power since early Sunday morning. We have a small generator and fireplace so that helps on phones charged, coffee maker in morning and microwave at times Now have low water pressure and Metro has a special helicopter up trying to find leak that supplies water tank in our as area.

If you need temporary power, resources should be getting easier to find. I returned my rental generator today. I really hope they get some work done tomorrow when it warms up. I still have one lane roads where trees have gone down and someone temporarily cleared a lane.

It's just not acceptable for a city like Nashville to struggle this much with a little ice. Do better Nashville.

Thankfully there has been such a public backlash that the mayor and city council are finally speaking up. The mayor is running for re-election and citizens are demanding a plan of action now. NES cancelled a planned meeting with certain council members because they said they hadn't complied with open records law and will try to next week. The CEO who has an accounting degree with no power co. experience, has only worked there 2 years issued video saying their goal is to have power restored within the next 2 weeks!

I think the current CEO there was longtime CFO at NES. Both her and her predecesor were in audit group at Deloitte in Nashville....

None of that changes the fact that NES was caught flat footed here. MLGW, which is nobody's idea of a well run utility, was aggressively trimming trees until dark on Friday evening in southeastern quarter of Shelby county before precip began falling. Thankfully for us, the ice stayed about 10-15 miles south and east of us....

Sounds like greater Nashville is experiencing its Snowmagedon. North Georgia had theirs a few years ago and (for the most part) have been better prepared this time.

NES is learning right now what we learned in Memphis in 2021 and 2023x3. You have to maintain the tree trimming. The extreme majority of the damage up there was trees damaging infrastructure (compare that to Northern MS where the sheer volume (3x of Nashville) of ice destroyed infrastructure).

The forecast miss shifting that much ice northeastward hurt too as many West TN emergency crews went to Northern MS vs Nashville....

Our power came back on and thankfully has stayed on while the house gets warmer. The weather is still very cold here. The mayor had a press conference this afternoon. Went ok since other groups have stepped up donating generators, carbon monoxide alarms. No live meetings except charts. They do show where NES trucks are in co. and we finally got in our area. They don't show where outside trucks are.

Neighbor volunteers cleared ou road for six days before any Merltro agency arrived. Mayor "Fast Freddie " Freeman is a clown, disgrace & incompetent.

Near hurricane conditions here in the Outer Banks right now. Snowing hard and blowing with gusts up to 50 mph. Calling for 8-12 inches. Will post pics sometime tomorrow if I don't lose power.

Snowing again in Nashville area but thankfully power has stayed on all night and house is warm without layers of clothes and a constant fire in fireplace. Unfortunately a fifth death has been reported. An elderly woman whose power had been restored but the heating system had not come on and her house was 44 degrees. The mayor has now demanded a meeting with the CEO and Board chair. This after sen Blackburn sent an outrage demanding answers and action now.
