This could get bad for some rural people. A friend of mine lost power at 5am yesterday he has a small child and its in the 40s in his house. Electric company advised he'd get power back in 2-7 days.

It’s bad here in Nashville. Still more than 160,000 without power. A lady on Twitter posted to NES that it’s 28 degrees insides her house today.

Many people in my neighborhood who didn’t have a good plan have packed up and left.

The folks in apartments, condos, and dorms can’t run generators either. I saw the kids at Belmont were getting desperate yesterday. Hopefully they have power back on at least.

Kingsport never gets the big snow. I used to laugh at the Eastman bubble thing. But it's uncanny how we never seem to get hit by these winter storms.
Dont believe the Eastman bubble nonsense. It just doesn't snow here a lot. Usually get 1 decent snow (3.5-5) inches a year. We'll get a bigger one once every 10 years or so. JC didn't get any snow either.

Lol, nothing wrong with a good urban legend. It's funny, when I worked at Eastman you would sometimes see it snow there and nowhere else. If it was a cold morning and enough steam was getting pumped out, it would sometimes freeze and fall back down as snow.

Another of my favorites is that Bays Mountain is hollow and Holston Defense/BAE has a missile silo there.

We got lucky in my area. Only around 1/2" of freezing rain. It's rained heavy all day, and I think the rain was just warm enough but to freeze for the most part. Not far from us they saw 3/4" plus. We were without power for 9 hours. Not a huge deal. I know some people which been out for going on two days, in this cold that's not good.

My nephew and his family are among those. They used up the last of their firewood and are headed over to his wife's parents that are also without power but at least have a gen.

Neice is in Mt. Juliet. Power back on within 12 hours.

We skated on thin ice, lol, in Cookeville. Didn't get anywhere close to forecast. That northeasterly flow kept us just on the fringe of the really bad stuff. I did pop 1/4 inch sheets of ice off the car roofs, ao we probably weren't but a 1/2 day more of freezing rain to losing power. But never did. Our primary roads were quite useable the day after, and today alot of roads are clear and dry. Only the back hollars are keeping the schools closed.

Now the dog on the other hand has been having the time of her spastic life outside.

Oh man...I had one huskamute and one husky and both of them absolutely lived for the winter weather. Snow was basically crack falling from the sky for those two.
Funny thing is this is a short hair black dog. Not the typical cold weather dog. Prob a mutt but similar to a Kelpie. Built like a mildly steroidal Whippet. Wired to the max. she was all over. Literally would sprint from one end of hte yard to the other. She'll take full sprint laps around the house like an idiot retard. This morning she hit that forst corner and slid a few feet on her haunches. lol. and she tries to break the ice up and eat it. Loves ice cubes. If she hears the ice maker she will come running. But, she will lay down and roll over to get her treat. She's got that going for her.

Yeah, when I lived in Kingsport, I always heard about the Eastman bubble basically killing off any chance of snow, and pretty much believe it in the 30 years I lived there. I remember getting a couple of feet a few years ago in Kingsport and was amazed because how rare it was. Its also not as deep as in the mountains with a lower elevation so theres that as well.

Now I live in Western NC and you might as well forget getting out if a big snow is in the forecast. Luckily, it hasn't been that bad in the 2 winters I've been here so far.

I went into Home Depot and asked the rentals folks if they had any returned generators since a lot of people are getting their power back on. The associate said he had 1, so I took it. Now I’m fueling up two little generators, hoping to get the house warmer tonight. Waking up every 3 hours to refuel, but at least I get to stay at home and watch basketball. One generator for the heat. The other for the refrigerator, internet, and one other device (currently the tv).

My neighborhood of about 1500 is fairly deserted. I haven’t seen anyone since this morning. But like I told my wife, it’s like camping for me. Every now and then I think I’m living the movie ā€œI Am Legendā€. šŸ˜†
