Will UT ever be a basketball school?

Proof is there that the switch has already occurred but there will always be football only fans. But, the fans who care about all UT sports are flocking to men’s bb by the droves. Fans want a winner, Barnes is a winner. He got fired at Tx bc he won in the regular season and choked in the tourney. I bet Tx fans wish they could have him back and Barnes has the team this year to make a run at the final 4.

There are over 5.75 million messages, not views,on the football forum. Not even 950k on the basketball forum.

Didn’t say UT was a basketball only school, it’s just not a football only school with a side of LV fans any longer. With LV and football at all time lows, people follow the team who is winning, it’s natural. And you going by messages all time as well. Which team sells out it’s games?

Thought is was kinda funny that it was TN and KY playing to see who plays in the SEC tournament final. I don't care for or follow basketball but I followed that thread just because.

You were the one that brought up numbers on the message board, but I can tell you I don’t need those numbers to support what I already know.

We are starving for a winner . No question about that, but nothing compares to the passion we have for football. That’s why people show up in RV’s on a Wednesday .Selling out a 100,000 seat stadium is much more difficult than 1/5 of that and a much broader one at that . A basketball game is something you can go to any day of the week and be out in 2 1/2 hours. For many people football is not just a 3 1/2 hour event, but a whole day or weekend.

I want to know what Volnation thinks. I am more thinking of long term. Let's say hypothetically that on down the road we have 3 Madness appearances in 6 years and 1 national championship. Hypothetically let's say too that UT football goes 7-5 the rest of the 6 years as well. Would we be more likely to start seeing this trend from football to basketball, or do you think we will be stuck in our ways?

I'm gonna get out of here. Let's see what yall think.

Go Vols

Stuck in our ways? You know Football pays the light bill, right?

Hypothetically, lets just say you never mention such a thing again. Otherwise, while we are on about ridiculous hypotheticals, how about the one where over the next 10 years, Saban retires, Pruitt wins 3 NCs with 5 appearances and every year from 2021 on is 10+ wins. Basketball also happens to do well.

Does recent success change the fact that Tennessee always has been a football school? Almost all of the sports revenue still comes from football. Basketball has had more success but still the money in this university cares more about the football program than basketball.

This again?
Florida won Back to Back National Titles

Are they a basketball school ?

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A FINAL FOUR

No. We were a basketball school the past 12 years, while we’ve been terrible in football. The basketball and football traditions are not the same in any way, shape form or fashion. Total wins, total all sec / all American players, popularity, finance, exposure. There is actually nothing similar except the last two years in basketball we’re like the 90’s in football and Bruce pearls tenure was very similar to several successful UT football coaches. I will always love both but they’re not comparable. We’ve never even been to the final 4 in basketball and are not recognized as a national powerhouse like Tennessee once was in football. Last I looked Tennessee was 8th all time in wins as a football program.

This is pathetic. In terms of success? Not "Paying the light bill". We will always put butts in seats at the football games. I am just talking straight record vs. record. The people saying "dumbest post of the year" are probably the 50 year olds saying we are going 9-3 this year.... gotta love it.

We have went toe to toe with UK the last several years in basketball.

We can't beat Vandy in foktball, and Missouri made UT look like a middle school team the last 2 years.

Football only guys will use the "how much money they take in" has their argument. Because that's all they got.

Winning and respect from other programs - it's been basketball since 2000

i agree i think the basketball team is what people think of when they think of ut now its not football anymore

I literally registered to post a response. No! Lol. It will about the time Indiana University becomes a football school.

Record to Record? Basketball is a tournament sport, doesn't matter if you win 30 games in a season if you're getting bounced on the 2nd Thursday of the tournament.
