Will there be a coaching change if we go 4-6 or worse?

The upside is that because of Covid they can only seat 20% of the stadium. You won't even notice a drop in fans because we suck.

You act as if our team has experienced any sort of stability what so ever. Go with a coach that has seen it. Lived it. That is something we haven't had since phulmer. Butch riding Kelley's coat tails. Dooleys name coming from a 4-8 Louisiana tech squad. The AD situation putting restraints on the damn cash cow. We had fallen so low, nobody wanted to come here. Now you want to start over again. Who do expect to hire at this point?

Schiano, Leach, and Mullen all wanted to come here in 2017. Coaches publicly rejecting us was due to Dave Hart screwing up the hiring process so bad that he got himself fired.

Hart didn’t want to fire Butch b/c of his buyout. The delay in firing him cost us Mullen. Mullen wanted to come here when it behave clear Butch was getting fired. Then McElwain lied about death threats and UF used that to remove him. By the time we fired Butch, McElwain was already out so Mullen wanted the job at his former school.

Once Mullen was off the board Hart went with Haslam’s pick of Schiano.

Nope...that would involve Fulmer admitting he was wrong in his decision. Mr.-Coach-Pruitt is here for two more seasons...that recent extension hosed us good.

TN was predicted to go 4-6. (See ESPN and othe National media) So meeting National pundits expectations doesn’t warrant firing the head coach.

The pundits predicted that b/c it’s easy to see Pruitt is a bad coach and in over his head. Jennings is the reason the team didn’t fall apart last year, not Pruitt.

Nope.

The UT fan base and AD reminds me of a cancer patient in denial. "Let's not operate until the thing has metastasized and is beyond all hope, then let's put another doctor on the case and instruct them to fix it"

Other schools pull the plug when it is obvious the head guy isn't working. If we go 4-6 or 3-7, Pruitt ain't the guy. Did Pruitt inherit a poop show? Sure. But other coaches have as well and at least manage to realize a QB isn't working, can get their guys lined up correctly after 3 years, don't get blown out by Georgia State in year two and UK in year three AT HOME, and don't have a drama-filled assistant carousel.

But....we are Tennessee. We are Dr. Stangelove, and dagummit we are gonna ride that bomb all the way down, all the time being told by sunshine pumpers: "he needs more time....he needs his guys..."

And so it will be this time around as well, kiddies.

Please pray that Auburn plays well enough this season to keep Malzahn so they don't hire Hugh Freeze at the end of this season. Freeze a perfect fit at Tennessee if Pruitt doesn't make it here. It will be a muddy race to see who gets him first. My guess is Auburn because UT doesn't make common sense decisions like that which is why I want Pruitt to make it. I don't trust anybody on the Hill to make the next hire anyways.

I think it’s possible.
Not a chance in hell. Its a lost season, get the team ready for 2021.

However, 4-8 next year could be really bad but that would only happen if JG starts and if he does then CJP should be fired for stupidity!

GBO!

4-6 with this SEC schedule would be about like a 7-5 year around here. 4 regular wins in SEC and 3 non conference wins.

No, because of COVID, and the tens of millions of dollars athletic departments are going to come up short anyway, I don't think you're going to see a whole lot of P5 firings this year, especially in those situations with an 8 figure buyout. It just ain't happening.
Covid or not, CJP is not getting fired this year.

If he keeps rolling JG out there they will have no choice but to fire him. It's a low income year for the athletic department and will only get worse as the fan base turns away from UT Football because they are tired of watching JG lead the team to losses. It's only an opinion but I think the fans would accept the losses a little better if they could see someone else at QB. At least it gives the appearance they are trying to improve that position.

Covid19 is the one thing we can’t really compare. I don’t think Fulmer wants to be fired twice from the university so maybe he’ll pull the plug without the extra year of failure like we gave him, Dooley and Jones. Honestly if we’re going to do the same ‘ol DC or OC hire then I see no benefit. The only coach we’ve hired that showed any ability to be a head coach was CLK and we were just 10 years to soon on that hire.

COVID is one thing, but JG has been worse than last year. A decision to keep him in and not prepare the others is all on Pruitt.

We hired a coach who has never been a head coach. We just gonna keep doin’ that every 3, 4 years?

I think it’s possible.
With the report to media today that the pandemic has cost UTK $147,000,000 so far, he could probably lose all the rest of this year's games and go 0-11 next year and never score a point, not even a FG, and the university would have to keep him another year or two due in part to Fulmer's extending Pruitt's contract during the middle of the lock down.

If the offense keeps struggling....there might now be any defensive coaches by the end of the season.

When I heard they gave Pruitt an extension before the season I had a bad feeling. I felt that Pruitt had the program generally headed in the right direction, but I also felt it was way too soon to be hitching ourselves to him. And now with the Kentucky debacle it is clear he isn't the guy. He should also be fired for how he is handling the QB situation. The guy just isn't qualified for this job. We need to fire him now, get a good, experienced coach, and not give any more extensions until that coach delivers and gets us to Atlanta.
