1st time in College station, gotta break them in right. Not possible without The Pride blasting Rocky Top 30 times.

See you in Tampa.

why are people picking against us at A&M....I do not see the talent on their team this year up to our level.

I'm with you. Just because they are an SECw team and it's on the road, is not enough to expect a loss. As fans we spend too much time looking at our competition to see what we have going on up at UT. #120 is stacked with talent. JD said he is the hardest working man in America, that's who I want as CEO and QB of my team.

We are in good hands.

POTSB should go to A&M. Both bands excellent. Contrasting styles would give the crowd great shows.

No excuse for The Pride not to be at every game!! Best band in America!

I've been to both kinds of games with/without The Pride, it's better with them there. The circle drill is impressive, but they got Rocky Top on full blast. You can tell its a Pride favorite. They may enjoy playing Rocky Top more than I enjoy hearing Rocky Top and singing iRocky Top, but I doubt it. They play my favorite song(Rocky Top).at some of the greatest moments in Vol history.

Yeah, bring the band.

30? They play it that many times per quarter.

It never gets old.

Just like running thru the T, I will never get tired of that. We need to talk Ga and A&M into letting us run thru the T, and to go ahead and checkerboard an endzone. Y'all are about to be embarrassed.

First post. I'm a member of the The Pride of the Southland Band and at the end of last year in May of 2016, the directors told my fellow members and I that we will take the whole band to GA (to watch the Vols beat the Dawgs between the hedges, of course :D) and we will take the two pep bands, the Orange Pep Band and the White Pep Band, which is about 150 members in total, I believe, to Kyle Field for the A&M game. We're also going to take the whole band to Bristol and I'm pretty sure we'll do Pregame and Open the T for that. That's the plan as of now. Last year, I got to Open the T for the Oklahoma game inside a checkered Neyland Stadium and it was THE most electrifying atmosphere I have ever been a part of. Just thinking of Opening the T in front of a crowd of 160,000 people gives me chills. I hope to get to go to Atlanta and Tampa this year as well. Just thought I'd share what I know. Go Vols!

Thanks for the info. And thanks for what y'all do. The twins went to their first games last year and had a blast. Who knows what they will remember, but they are always wanting to sing Rocky Top, they can hold their own.

See y'all in Tampa.

Hart...:whistling:

GO VOLS!

Hamilton did it, too. It was his bad spending that has led to Hart's penny pinching as well, though reduced band travel has been the norm across college football as fans lose interest in bands and ADs start running like businesses instead of old boys' clubs.

I'd like to see full band at every game, but that doesn't really make sense for the members. When I was in the band in 2003, we went to Florida, Auburn, Alabama, and Kentucky and sent a small pep band to Miami.

No problem. Playing Rocky Top never gets old. It's even better in The Swamp or Bryant-Denny. There's always a bunch of groans when the drum major gives the signal for it :)

Historically the two pep bands have been 40 members each. On trips where they take both bands, they sometimes add a few extra bodies, but I'd expect that number to be less than 100 total. They may have changed things since I marched though.

Yeah, you're definitely right. After I thought about it, they aren't more than 50 members a piece, although I believe that the band this year has increased its membership by 50 with the incoming freshmen for this year because of the hype around the improved football team (the director's said it was the biggest jump in membership since the 1998 season to 1999) so they may expand it. This year will actually be my first year in a pep band, so I didn't know off the top of my head. I didn't do it last year and regretted it. Thanks, though. Gonna be a great year! IT'S GREAT TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL!

Typically the Orange and White Pep Bands are each 40 members. It's basically what you can fit on one bus.

So what's the head count for The Pride?

I think it's well over 300 members in total. kckempf might have to correct me again, though lol. Not all of those actually march in every given show, though. Pregame and Circle Drill in particular have a set amount of people. Circle Drill is the most competitive, I'd say, as well as the hardest show by far imo. I was lucky enough to get and keep my spot for both Pregame and Circle Drill last year, but many were kicked out of theirs if they couldn't perform at the required level or were incompetent (not marking their drill charts, late to practice, etc.). It's a lot more competitive than many realize. The Pride wants to be the best college marching band in the US, no doubt. Upperclassmen usually are guaranteed a spot, though, so I won't have to deal with that this year as long as I handle my business when I go to band camp on the 7th.
