Highly doubtful, Barnes struggles with higher rated players and teams full of 3* have their ceilings as does his offense.

It is what it is. We're lucky to have Barnes. I watched a bunch of 5 and 4 star players wearing orange this season. Never imagined I would. I hope he gets us there but, if not, we're still lucky to have a hall of famer coaching for us.

We’re you born after 2011? Pearls team had plenty of star power.

Prince, Smith, Chism, Crews and Ramar were all top 50 players on the 2008 team

2008-2011 had plenty of star ratings
He had a decent classes, but never had three five stars. Maze was a transfer. Tyler Smith was a transfer.
Jujuan and Loftin weren’t highly recruited. Brian Williams was a project. Like I said, bailing wire and duct tape. Pearl may be a dirt bag but he’s 5x the coach Barnes is.

I still cannot believe he managed to lose 10 games and not advance past the second round of the NCAA Tournament with three future first round NBA Draft picks, including Kevin Durant on his team.

Prince, Ramar and Duke all were rated 5 stars. Smith transferred because of family issues he put like 14 a game as a freshman at Iowa and a top 50 player in his class. So was Chism.

Hopson and Harris both were five stars in 2011.

That first team wasn’t uber talented but after that UT had a plethora of talent.

Jajuan was a preferred walk-on from McMinn Co. (I think ?)

Hell the 08-09 teams both had Woolridge and Negedu, both consensus top 100 guys also

That’s right. My biggest concern with Pearl was recruiting. He’s gotten much higher rated players at Auburn. I think his TV time paid off. His results at UT were impressive.

I voted no. I like Barnes but I don't have a lot of faith in him come postseason. I won't say it's a definitely no but it's a pretty strong one.

Barnes best team was Williams, Schofield and crew. I don't believe he will ever get back there because he needs talented guys willing to stay in his program two or more years to get experienced to his system. He isn't going to a Final Four at this point in his career. First Round Rick at best. I will say I hope I'm wrong.

If Barnes played by the rules Mears did the majority of his career, Rick would be 0 in NCAA trips and only 1NIT.

As we know, coach Barnes gets a ton of criticism for his tournament resume. He did get Texas to a Final 4, so I'm curious do you think he will ever get us to one before he hangs it up?
Will he ever get us an sec tournament championship?

Short answer: No

Long answer: To make the Final 4, I think Barnes will need 3 starters that are upperclassmen and Top 75 types. He will need 2-3 high end role players plus a 5* freshman or two. Unless you get back Pons, Fulky, JJJ, and Springer, this setup won't exist next year. There hasn't been enough development in roster spots past #7 to see this happening in the subsequent two seasons. At some point, age comes into the equation.
