Will McBride Commits

I know this is the exception rather than the norm but Memphis signed a 3* q.b. who ended up being the Denver Bronco's first round draft pick last season.
The problem is NOT that he is a 3*. The problem is that bUTch sees that he has the skill set to be good BUT bUTch doesn't have a q.b. coach who can develop him in to a 5*....
Plenty of college coaches can take a 3* with skills and coach them up but bUTch can't do that. THe closest thing he has done is make Mosley gain weight and play in the secondary. Mosley is a decent player but he is not developed to what we had hoped he would be.
Really? Dobbs? Barnett? Sutton?

Derek Barnett was a top 175 player in the country with offers from Florida State, Ohio State, and LSU to name a few. Cam Sutton was indeed a 3 star, but had offers from Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, etc. Josh Dobbs was a three star player, but had offers from Arkansas, Mississippi State, TCU, and Arizona State.

This is no way trying to tear down this kid, but for God's sake, I wish people would quit using the above as examples. This kid's offer list speaks for itself. Like an earlier poster said, he will never see the field here and will more than likely transfer to UTC after two years. But like a lot of "under-rated" players on this board, he will be pumped up to be Dobbs on steroids before he steps on campus.

He is not a bad flip late...we needed a QB because there is a chance that the loser of the QB battle transfers

Correct. We need bodies at the position as either QD or JG will certainly transfer at some point. Glad he's here, but I find myself very quickly pivoting to the 2018 qb target list. Atlanta Vol says we're still very much in on Lawrence and that's very good news imo.

I'm not specifically talking about QBs i'm talking about our class that,is 80% 3 stars. Once again take a look at Bama and their classes. They recruit so great that even highly touted kids have to transfer. So what if they've got players leaving? Their recruiting class is top rated every season it doesn't matter if they have some guys transfer. Our class is average in the SEC and Butch couldn't win big this year with a lot of talent, so when the talent is average it'll only be worse. Apparently things at UT have changed we've been mediocre so,long even the fans are okay with it. That's alright though let's keep beating out memphis and temple for players they're all diamonds in the rough

Well even if you don't want to admit it nobody is recruiting like Saban, not just TN. Plenty of time left to NSD and if we can drop a few 3* and get a few 4* we are sitting pretty.

I will add being top 5 or 6 is just a bragging right thing. Doesnt mean the kids will adapt or pan out.

Both sides you're referencing is opinions.

Will he see the field eventually, who knows.

I like this commit. Any time there is a commit that is not a 4 star or better, we will see negative comments. We definitely needed a QB in this class. Many other posters have rightly stated that we have a logjam at QB next year. I wish we would be able to keep all 3 of next year's QB's, but realistically we will probably lose 1. My expectation for McBride is that he redshirts and maybe sees the field as a red shirt sophomore or junior. We definitely need a good QB on the bench in case of an injury and this pickup makes a lot of sense to me. With regard to recruiting busts, invariably with 25 or more commits each year, some will not work out. Some of these will not either and some may become our favorite players of the decade.

Will McBride, Clear Springs, Dual-Threat Quarterback

Go watch this guys film. I kind of rolled my eyes at first, but he has a strong arm, accurate, can make all the throws, and is shifty in space. Excited about this kid.

I don't get excited one way or the other over a kid's Highschool film because you rarely know how good the competition is he's playing. Therefore, it's hard to get an accurate take on how good the kid really is unless he just looks superhuman and even then, that can be misleading.

For example, If you go back and look at Vic Wharton's Highschool film, he looks like a combination of Barry Sanders and Reggie Bush on steroids....yet when he got here, he couldn't get on the field ahead of some average to below average WRs. Don't know that allstar games tell us much either. I'll wait til he gets on campus and we hear from the coaches, former players and beat writers talk about him and give us their thoughts.

Well he plays 6A in Texas so you have to give some credit to his film KB.

Jmo Orange. I'll wait til I hear from the reliable sources around the program. And even then, I'm gonna want see him play in person.

Honestly not trying to discount him, just keeping the powder dry until he can get some real world confirmation. Glad he's in the class, we need an qb this cycle.

which I think somewhat kills the "he didn't get a lot of exposure by the recruiting services" argument. I've seen a few posts referring to that as the reason the kid is rated low.

The kid already has better pocket presence than any QB we've had in a LOOOONG time! His film is impressive.

Let's let him stand in a pocket protected by our OL vs SEC defenses before making that over the top statement, shall we?

Stop using logic. You're at risk of being called a negavol for pointing out obvious cracks in the program. Some people have been beaten down so hard that they eagerly trust a proven liar no matter what the evidence to the contrary shows. It's called group think.

He was commenting on the DEVELOPMENT of those players...not STARS.
