I've never advocated for eliminating the court system. Only for eliminating the EPA

This is, sadly, the exact throw the baby out with the bathwater mentality that has put Trump in office. Rather than vote for smarter government, fools have voted for wrecking government, mostly because they pay no attention to the real good that gets done every day.

The EPA may over step its bounds, but without it companies would run amok and bury toxic waste anywhere they could.

You wouldn't believe some of the things I've seen that were dumped or buried in a the ground.

What does smarter government look like? Anything like this list?

VA (Walter Reed)
Tuskegee syphilis experiments
TSA
Iraq/Afghanistan
New Orleans Fema
New Orleans Corp of Engineers
Heparin contamination
Cia involvement in execution of
Ngo Dinh Diem
Sec oversight of Bernie Madoff and
Enron
20 trillion of debt
Abu Ghraib

That's just a few. There's not enough ink on the internet to go through the whole list.

If people on your side of the aisle wouldn't push us to one extreme, to where we have the EPA shutting down lemonade stands, we might have been able to reach a reasonable middle ground a long time ago. But, one extreme act results in another extreme act (the election of Trump) and now we wonder why the people want to start chopping off govt agencies.

They simply have gone too far...

We don't need the EPA for that. If a local business is harming you, take them to court, don't buy their products, organize others to help. Stop expecting government to do everything for you.

What if a multinational business conglomerate is harming you? You gonna take them to court, Ms. Brokovich? I'm sure your grassroots boycott will really hurt them. Thanks but no thanks to that strategy.

Yep. They sure have.

Every couple of weeks I notice that my toenails have gone too far. It never occurs to me that I should cut my feet off to solve that problem.

I think Huff is a fine example of a fairly reasonable libertarian, as is volinbham, but the rest of our board's libertarians are too extreme. I've tried wrapping my mind around their ideas, and I just can't do it. The world the seem to want just seems nihilistic and frightening.

My mother-in-law is an extreme libertarian, and, while I love the woman, the things she tells my wife and I, it's just insane.

You means the type of monopoly that's created by government regulations such as the EPA?

Would you rather have a two headed child born with cancer and then try and sue some company that went bankrupt and closed 10 years ago that polluted the hell out of the ground where you bought a home five years ago or ...... would you rather have clean ground?

I would like to know more about these two headed cancer children you claim existed prior to the EPA.

But are you really claiming the EPA prevents these things?

Going too far is the nature of government.

Almost all of our problems in this country are caused by government stealing and dictating what we can and can't do.

I worked in the environmental field for a decade and saw first hand what a freaking mess was made prior to the EPA being established. I also saw messes that had been made over a long period of time with the adverse effects showing up much later.

Two headed cancer baby was an obvious overstatement, but don't be a dumbass and think birth defects, cancers and etc. are not reality for those living in affected areas.

I don't think you have any idea how the EPA works or what they do

And you honestly can say Hillary would have pushed a "smarter" government agenda? You look at the overreach from government in the past 20 years at all levels. From the EPA to the IRS down to State governments pushing for increased control. Hell, I can't even build a shed on my property now without having to pay the local government for the privilege of being able to do it. I can't build a building on my own property that I pay for without having government control over it.

The vote for Trump was the closest thing we've had to a "revolt" in this country in a long time. People, by and large, were tired of career politicians allowing unchecked government running wild. And it showed at the polls. Your girl lost because she had no intention of changing that paradigm.

No they wouldn't, do you think TDEC and the other 49 state environmental agencies are going to just let everyone run wild? No! There isn't a need for the federal EPA anymore.

I know how the EPA works and what they do and as a federal agency it needs to go.

too many bribes, incompetent people and stuff that is let slide.

I have dealt with two projects where the owner decided to do some things that were pretty damn disturbing. state and EPA placed a stop on the work. Owner's threatened to sue and the state backed off, EPA got to the first meeting before backing off.

We walked from one of those and the other got shut down by the public when they found out what was going on. thankfully there was that level of government involvement to give the people a right to way in.

I don't deal with international conglomerates. Most of our clients never leave the city yet alone the state, have nothing approaching a monopoly and they can still get away with all sorts of stuff. because they know the markets only care for about 6 months (at most) then it is gone and forgotten. as long as they know there is going to be an issue they can plan around it. heck or just create an LLC tied to that specific issue and wash their hands of any real loss.

There are still a ton of sites being remediated all over there he country. At this point in time, the states could serve the EPA's regulatory role.

The clean up costs aren't cheap though....

There are all types of strange phenomena out there ....... spontaneous human combustion, raining frogs, balls rolling up hill..... Luther liking a post by CP. the world truly is an amazing place.😀

I hope you are not suggesting federal employees are above such things?

No they are not cheap, I think between the state agencies and courts we could do without the federal EPA.

You may be right. The EPA could very well be like unions.... at one time they were needed.... but their purpose has been served and their time has past.
