Wide splits with outside wrs

I have to agree the past two seasons we have lacked overall execution. The splits help to create some space by not allowing the defense to just load the box. The last two seasons our WR's have lacked overall playmaking skills though. Honestly kind of feels like the issue is more on WR coaching than it does on splits.

It has its flaws and really struggled these past 2 seasons. The route trees aren’t usually exciting and not a lot of quick outlets over the middle or places to dump the ball when Qb is in trouble.

But you also have to remember these wide splits are a big reason our rushing offense does so well even with an average offensive line. Getting rid of them would be a complete overhaul of the offense.

Wish we would run more traditional screens to the RBs. Few times we have this year we have gashed defenses with it.

Obligatory "the middle is always open" since it seems Tennessee hasn't taken advantage of that in 20 years.

Pointless and limits their effectiveness. Needs to trash that alignment. I can understand wide slots, but having the outside guys at the sidelines is damn near pointless!
Could not disagree more.

not every play
We’re not doing that when we’re in 12 personnel- which is more and more as of late.

The wide split lose their effectiveness if we don’t have the vertical speed to make the defense pay.

Lots of overthrown balls this year to WRs which could have been TDs.

disagree, I think stretching the defense out and making them cover the entire field is good strategy
It is but need to mix it up some, sometimes line up inside and flare out. Sometimes it gets too repetitive. That goes with any plays. GBO

They have run a ton of 12 this year, and I do understand why, but I’d sure like to see them go back to more 11 and four wide. Not sure they have the playmakers to win outside with 12 personnel.

That’s exactly what I mean.
He’s overthrown Bru more times than connected on that 9 route.

Bru runs a 4.6 maybe. Like why do we keep repeating that?

Because that’s what route is open for the 1 on 1 but Bru doesn’t have the speed to reach it.

And yes Nico needs to have a better feel on those deep balls. He’s overthrown Thornton and White.

We need a game breaking WR. When we had Hyatt, our offense was amazing and yet we still struggled against UGA in 2022. The wide splits are what they are. I don’t hate stretching the field but it can’t just be horizontal.

Someone who can win one on one and get over the top. Texas has 5 star WR everywhere. We’re building in the right direction but what makes the offense different is the explosive play component.

Nico is improving. It’s hard for a 20 year old QB with only 10 starts to be super refined. But we need more around him. Again, look at Texas’ offense and look at ours….they have crazy skill players EVERYWHERE. We have an elite RB but no game breaker receiver right now.
I disagree, we have had wide receivers very open in most every game, but the passes were overthrown most of the time. Not meaning to blame Nico totally, he is a freshman. Like I was saying last year, he should have been the starter mid way of last season, and if he had, i think he would be much better this year. If he improves as he should next year, and I think he will he will be an awesome qb. I think we have an awesome group of receivers.

Our offense is ineffective because of poor quarterback play. Almost just as bad as last year’s quarterback play.
