Why won‘t Heupel take sole responsibility for Saturday

No, we understand leadership. It doesn’t matter that the players made mistakes. A leader realizes that the buck has to stop somewhere and he steps up and takes it.

This is not just a football principle. It applies to business, military, politics, or any other situation where a „team“ exists.

One the earliest payers for players and championships. Teamed with Wealthy Los Angeles Contactor Sam Gilbert and bought all his players new Cars. Their 2nd string team was better than most 1st team across the nation. Wooden was way ahead of his time "if you aint cheating you aint trying".

„It is my job to put our players in the best position to win. I obviously didn’t get that done Saturday night.“

Nothing beyond that. No need to commit Hari-Kari or anything; just own responsibility.
Risks are part of putting players in a position to win. Yeah. You are obviously looking for something more than that.

The higher the competition they higher the risks and need to take them. Bama anticipated that play. JA threw a ball that should have gone into the cheap seats. It happens. It doesn't necessitate anything more than Heupel saying "we didn't get it done".

A few scholarships at the end of your roster are not going to make the difference in wins and losses
That's dumb. Of course it can. Another DL or DB or two as 2nd or 3rd year players wouldn't make a difference right now? Being short scholarships makes you choose your poison when building the roster and depth in position groups.

If there were difference makers they could attain, they would have gotten them and processed some other guys.

Yes it was a team loss; but I am very disappointed that Heupel keeps saying „we“ and „us“ instead on „I“ and „me“.
Great leaders share the praise but accept the blame.
I would have so much more respect for Heupel if he just came out and said „I screwed up“.
I do get your point, and it's a valid one to be more personally accountable when bad play calling or bad time management decisions were made in losses or in wins. Only thing, he also uses „we“ and „us“ when we win instead of „I“ and „me".
.

That pick 6 has entered the pantheon of the most traumatic plays of the 21st century. It joins Pig Howard’s fumble through the end zone against Georgia and JG‘s rogue sneak and fumble against Alabama as absolutely devastating milestones for the program.
It is why BVS will never truly be healed for long time Vol fans.
I think the problem is that some folks feel these only happen to us. I bet the "Kick / Six" lives within the minds of Bama fans.

The loss is not solely on Heupel. Maybe it would be better for him to take full responsibility in front of the press, but to complain that he isn't is grasping for straws in my opinion.

The defense can't give up multiple 90+ yards TD drives. The receivers have to stop dropping the ball. Joey can't make that throw to end the half. Offense Line has to stop false starting and also did not do as well pass blocking. DBs need to turn their head and panicking. There is plenty of responsibility to spread around in addition to better clock management and playcalling on critical downs.

To the OP's point, I remember several times where Peyton Manning would take the blame when everyone knew a loss wasn't his fault, but someone else's. He did it at UT, Indy and Denver.

Heupel can't even groom himself or choose a shirt that didn't come off the floor. You expect him to demonstrate leadership?

Only half kidding. Heupel is happy to be making 9M a year and he is gonna milk that as long as he can. And he likely has 2-3 years before his seat gets hot.

He isn't gonna take personal responsibility for anything. Heck, he doesn't even hold his coaches accountable.

Late stage Fulmerism is where we are heading. Stand by for endless players who "fail to develop"

Yeah, I'm bitter today. And I have a right to be.

::: Cue "Coach-is-Always-Right" crowd to tell me to find another team :::
Ron White was right. You really can’t fix stupid.

You can't be serious....and If you are that's the dumbest **** I've read on here in awhile, Heupel has us relevant again, good recruiting class coming in and we've been ranked how many weeks straight??? Look at his record here compared to the crap we had here before, let's go with what you said...recruiting will implode and we'll be starting all over again just trying to make a bowl game...Heupel has his flaws and it's frustrating to watch at times, his clock management aggravates me so bad 🤣🤣 but he's the best coach we've had in a very long time and I'm glad he's here and hope he's here for a long time🍊🍊🍊🍊
Agree. And that truly is saying something considering the ridiculous 💩 I see on here everyday from the usual culprits. One can only hope that idiotic post was a mistake and was meant to be in blue font. If not, then it is the runaway winner of the “Dedicated to D4H Dumbest Post of the Year”.

It's not always the coach's fault. Our players need to execute the gameplan better and avoid unnecessary penalties. (And one quite boneheaded throw).
