Why the pessimism?

again, the question was "why the pessimism"....

and for those of us that are older than 18 years old, there's been a lot of losing in this series....

so if you want an answer about why does so much pessimism exist....

that's a fairly valid reason.

I just don't think that explains it well.

Sure, element of angst left over, running around in the back of our minds, a bit.

But most of that was flushed with last year's win. Most of the remnants should've been washed away by Florida's current dismal condition.

So just not sure why the doom & gloom is strong this week. It doesn't appear to make a lot of sense.

Maybe some comes from the game being in the Swamp (always a challenge to march into the Swamp and pull a "W")? Maybe. That makes a little more sense.

"Because last 30 years" just isn't answering it.

sure it does. that YOU have chosen to ignore it or block it out doesn't make it any less relevant to the overall outlook on the TN/FL series for others, and be a possible reason why some TN fans may be a little pessimistic regarding this game.

again, if you want to change the question to "what should we be optimistic about this week", then i'm going to agree with what you and others have said.

but that wasn't the question....based on how you responded, you could have just left everything out except the "dunno".

Except that we're about to have a 2 game streak against Florida for the first time since 2004 :D ....and that's just the beginning

And a 3 game streak against Ga. with good ole SC rolling into town. Wonder what ESPN's FPI rating is for the Vols being 6-0 ? My realistic optimistic rating is 50% and I'd wager ESPN's is less than 10. Go Vols !!!

Heck we may not have a real good defense so let's score more points on offense until the D get's real. amirite:clapping:

The over pessimism is just as annoying as the over confidence. Both sides could probably use some brakes.....so they could pump them.

Going back to tbe 90's and pulling stats is unfair to THIS team and THIS coaching staff.

i don't disagree. but that wasn't the question or the point of my answer..

"why is there so much pessimism?"

for those of us that have spent our whole adult lives watching this game, and only have 7 wins, i think is , maybe, a possible, potential, sorta/kinda reason there might be a little pessimism for this week, for this game.

Since so many of the posters on VN already know the outcome of most games, I am surprised more of them don't make a $$$$ killing each week in Vegas. :thud:

Dont blame me bro, im not the one that lined the d up in prevent and rushed 3 to the qb. But the guy that did is still in charge. Thus the doubt in the game.

That is a valid reason. Also one of my concerns. Danny Wuerffel however is not a particular worry of mine for this game. 90's stats are not relevant

I mean...I'm one of the younger vols so my judgement has yet to be clouded by decades of heartbreaking failures

I havent said anything about 90s stats. But to the point, that was the question and if a fan wants to, thats there opinion.

It's impossible for me not to remain a little dubious about our defense but there's at least as many questions about FL's offense. With the suspensions still in place we really should be able to outscore FL even if we don't look great on offense ourselves.

Go for it. Doesn't bother me. But pulling stats farther back than 2013 is bs and you know it whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

People can use whatever they want to form their opinion. If you dont want to hear it, dont ask the question of open the thread.

This right here is why i'm not super confident. The past 30 years doesn't affect my outlook, but the recent past of our terrible rushing defense affects it quite a bit.

lol...

a question was asked that was going to generate subjective responses....

not sure why some of you are getting so worked up.
