This is what kills me. The guy has a hit piece article written about him by SI (who only sells magazines by writing such articles) and he's supposedly untouchable, but the same people want to hire a guy under an actual NCAA Show Cause Order!
Howland lost control of his program.
It is hard to lose at UCLA in bball. You actually have to try. Trying to find 3 or 4 high level players to say yes to play in LA is not exactly difficult.
I think his success went to his head. But, maybe he learned from this. NO question what he did at Pitt and UCLA was impressive. But he is definately in the twilight of his career and he really burned some bridges.
You don't think Cal could have gotten him? Yet, I don't think they even gave him a look.

Point being he got caught cheating and left the university with a **** roster and a black eye. Can we nit hire someone wirh some class?
Only job I am aware of him being passed over for was Marquette. Just because there are job openings doesn't mean he's thrown his hat into the ring for all of them. He can afford to be picky. He wants a destination job.You guys should know there's almost no way Tennessee is going to hire a coach at this point with the shaky background of Howland. Remember, the same administration that everyone vowed would never ever ever take another chance on Pearl. The administration that hired Zo and Dooley, the ultimate "safe" choices in regard to any potential NCAA or off court/field issues.
There's no way Howland gets passed over like he did for the jobs that he has without there being something preventing his hiring.

And He definitely wants the UT job.
Howland's resume is better than Pearls. White and Tyndall's resumes combined aren't as good as Howland's. Everyone wants to talk about UCLA.
When he took over at Northern Arizona, they were coming off 2 coaches in 6 years with a combined record of 43-114, Pat Rafferty went 2-25 in '89-'90.
Howland took them to the Dance for the first time in school history, they went again the year after he left and haven't been back since.
In years 3-5, he won 21 games each season. They've only won 21 games twice since '98-99.
At Pittsburg, he took a team that hadn't been to the dance the six years previous to his arrival, to two consecutive sweet 16's in a four year span, one team finishing 4th and one 9th in the final AP.
I wasn't in favor of Howland at the beginning...when names like Marshall, Smart, Mack, Cronin etc... were getting tossed around, but now we are down to hiring some inexperienced guys like Tyndall, White and Wade.
I could live with those guys, sure...but Howland's sitting right there...doesn't make a lot of sense.
If the expectation is Sweet 16 by year 3, only one of those guys has done it.
