Schools from across the country came calling, all of them after Capital Highs quick guard Caleb Kidder.
Though the 6-foot-5, 250-pound Kidder, a stalwart on the Bruins offensive and defensive lines, still has a year of high school left, he has already made up his mind of where hell continue his football career.
Kidder said he verbally committed to play for the University of Montana a few weeks ago, and has accepted a full-ride scholarship to play defensive end for the Griz.
My familys from there and they just have a great game-day atmosphere, Kidder said of his decision. I made a great relationship with the head coach (Robin Pflugrad) and my position coach (Inoke Breckterfield).
Kidder chose the Big Sky Conference school over fellow in-state rival Montana State and a host of other Division I schools, including Boise State, Stanford, the University of Idaho and Washington State. A number of Ivy League schools were also recruiting the Bruin Harvard, Princeton and Yale showed interest.
He was being recruited by everybody in the country, so thats a good pick up for the Grizzlies, Capital coach Pat Murphy said. Hes got good size and hes very athletic for his size. Hes definitely a DI athlete.
Kidder hasnt decided yet on a major, but said he is looking into pharmacy, physical therapy and business. Right now, his biggest concern is the upcoming school year and grid season. Kidder said thats the primary reason he made a commitment so early on.
