Why not Mike Leach?

And I just don't get the desire for Leach. I think some just want a coach that has good pressers - even if they have not really been able to win in what some would consider a lesser conference.

They're 9 and 2 with wins over Oregon, USC, and Stanford this year. That's pretty impressive.

He's a forever no. Too many allegations about covering for Sandusky.. He's denied them all, but still..

I'll take Leach over him every time.

Yea, if any of those PSU talks have any merit, then no, he'd be untouchable. And regardless of PSU stuff or not, I'd still take Mike Leach over Schiano anyhow. Leach should be on a short list right behind the 4 or 5 big boys. He can definitely coach. There are no facts legit to argue that the man can't coach at a high level. At mid-level schools or not, he still steps his game up. Solid offensive recruiter at the skill positions, and coaches up the talent he gets. I think Leach could average 10-2 records at UT, which means any given yr, with the luck of a couple upsets, we could be in Playoff Contention. And at minimum be competing for the SEC Championship regular. I want 1 of our Top 5 big names....but I'd think positively and be perfectly fine landing Mike Leach. And i think Leach still values the Tennessee Vols brand. He knows our tradition and passion. He wanted our job in 2008. He would stay here as long as we wanted him. Not a bad choice, by far

Yea, Schiano is going to get an offer from a decent school. I would think after the whole Hugh Freeze infractions situation at Ole Miss that they would hurry and try to grab a straight laced, disciplinarian to clean the mess up, and I figured Schiano would be a good fit there with their situation. I feel like we can do better tho. He's solid tho. Schiano would be a good option down the list. But when you actually start listing coaches in order, there seems to be alot more higher up the list. I'd even take D'Antonio over Schiano I think. You got Peterson, Patterson, Franklin, Fisher, Gruden, (I'd even call Stoops with an 8mil offer regardless of his interest), Leach, and probably D'Antonio.....THEN I'd drop down to Mullen, and Schiano, and Venables from Clemson, and Les Miles, and Whittingham at Utah, and maybe Campbell at Iowa State. And we could have our pick of ANY of those in the "2nd group", but we're in trouble if the list has to drop that far anyhow in reality. No way in the world UT should hafta go past our 6th guy. Currie better not let that happen. 6 guys won't all turn down a big raise. I'd be surprised if we had to go past 3 if the money Currie offers is right. And just to say - I know D'Antonio isn't the beast he's been certain yrs, but he's took a basketball school, and made them a legit Top25 threat every yr CONSISTENTLY. At a school with Michigan, Ohio St, Wisconsin, PennSt, and even Nebraska now, all with better football programs and tradition. He's competed for the conference championship multiple times. I think he'd be solid at Tennessee.

Fisher?

So I was the OP of this thread but I haven’t stopped by in some time. CML could potentially win the PaC 10 this year. If he did would that change any of your minds or have you already decided no way . I know Wazzu winning pac10 is a huge IF , but it is possible.

If WSU beats WashU on Saturday, that puts them atop the division. Likely to rematch USC, whom WSU defeated this year.

Hmmmm....I am actually pulling for WSU now.

15 seasons.........with 1 better than 9 wins........607 lifetime.

Sure he is a good coach.....but not a great coach.

I'll take Petersen all day every day....... Even if they lose tomorrow.

leach reminds me of the drunk mechanic you find at your local pub 7 nights a week.
Yeah, Leach is the drunk crew chief at the local pub celebrating another NASCAR victory for his driver on the seventh night...

Currie is the team's sponsor who writes the damn checks, enjoys the victories, and otherwise gets the hell out of the way of the people who actually do the work.

I see a lot of "Leach wouldn't fit personality-wise".

Do y'all think Peterson would?

Here's a quote from an article on Oregonlive.com:

"Washington coach Chris Petersen sometimes comes across as charisma-challenged to those watching on television, perhaps because has a calm sideline demeanor."

I heard he's Catholic - in a conversation that started with someone saying he's a Scientologist. Regardless of religion, he's a total CA/PAC-12 guy...that doesn't fit East Tennessee at all...and is about as likely to take our job as Gruden is.

I’d love to see Leach on the recruiting trail...

Eye patch or no eye patch?
Should I leave the hook in the car?

You may be right...... As he was born and raised in California and has spent most of his time in the west.

He did spend 13 years of his coaching career in Boise which is very similar in size, population, and culture to Knoxville.

I wanted Leach before the Dooley hire was announced. Wish we had made a move with him then and would be okay with him now.

Same. Leach has turned Washington State from being a bottom feeder in the Pac-12 to regularly beating ranked teams.
