Why not Franklin?

Franklin is not playing. He is coaching a team that plays the teams on his schedule. That is all that he can do.

If you recall, Fulmer made his hay beating bad Kentucky, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt teams. They were on the schedule and thaere is nothing you can do but play them and win.

We played some bad teams and could not beat them this season. Franklin is the real deal.

Fulmer was 44-33 against ranked competition. Let me know when Franklin beats a ranked team.

Fulmer crashed the program too.

No, the people who make decisions crashed it. They let Fulmer get too close, and they got more involved emotionally than they should have. It was clear that Fulmer should have been fired after 2005, but he played his NC chip, and got another shot to fix it.

Yeah I'll admit I may have been wrong about this one. Still might be good coach if he does well this season. And no, I'm not a "negavol", I just have an opinion and I'm not scared to share it, even if it's not popular with with everyone else.

Let everyone know your a Vandy fan
and you can tell them that he is already
the coach of your team.

Why don't we hire Franklin? Because we don't hire jankey douchebags is why we don't hire Franklin! Dude has beat us once and now he is the best coach ever?

Just wondering what most Vol fans really think about him. Are Vol fans overlooking him just because he coaches at Vandy? Would you have him on your list if he didn't coach there? I suspect there are many that wouldn't want UT to hire him just because they wouldn't want to hear Vandy fans gloating about how we had to steal their coach. Any truth to that?

Reason #1: If just looking at him doesn't scream "DOUCHEBAG", then you need to get your eye prescription checked.

Reason #2: He's Vandy's coach. No way should we give the Little Sisters of the Stupid any ammunition. They don't deserve it.

Reason #3: If he was hired, we'd have to take Clay Travis back. Do not want.

Franklin would be a great hire, if Gruden, Stoops, Butch Davis, and Jimbo Fisher decline.

Gewt over the Vandy ties. Get over who he beat. His team beat the teams that were on his schedule and I did not see many others beating South Carolina, Florida and Georgia.

The guy is one of the best, if not best recruiting head coaches. He is also a master motivator. He knows how to get inside a kid's head and get the best effort out of him. The man can coach and brings a solid staff with him.

He's doing what he has done at Vanderbilt with limited resources and no tradition. It ia all James Franklin and little else there. Imagine what he would do with UT's recruiting budget, UT's facilities,, UT's tradition, and UT's image among prospects.

Reason #2 confirms my suspicion. Reason #3 makes the most sense of all. And for the record, he is known around here as "sewer rat"

Against: Franklin would use a UT offer to boost his own (and Vandy's standing) while making a mockery of UT. They brought this up on 104.5 the other day. I wouldn't be surprised to see him call a press conference to announce the offer, publicly decline it, and spin it in a way to say that Vandy is the premiere football program in the state.

There is no reason not to consider him. He has done more at Vandy than any coach that I can remember and has raised every level of expectation that Vandy has with win totals, bowl games and recruiting. If he can do that at Vandy it's possible that he could raise a program like UT with more resources, a huge fan base, the best facilities and a great stadium back to where we belong. Obviously, he hasn't proven that he can have similar results with a big time program so that would be my only reservation. I don't think we can afford to roll the dice. However, if we strike out with Gruden, Stoops, Patterson, Petersen, Mora, Jr., Shaw and Pterino and get down to the likes of Smart, Strong, Mullen, Briles, Golden and those guys then I would have to give him very strong consideration and would probably take him over those guys with the exception of maybe Strong. But thankfully for Vol fans I have no say in the matter.

Exactly.. now if Franklin contacted UT then that might be different.

I think he's pretty much solidified himself as a winner! That shellacking he put on UT and Kentucky was impressive "for a Vandy team". Keep in mind, even though Vandy had a much better defense, they had the stench of ongoing defeat in it's long history of playing UT. Just getting them to believe they could win was a milestone. Getting them to beat the sh*t out of us and beat Auburn, Kentucky, and Ole Miss was something NO Vandy coach has accomplished. Personal feelings aside, Franklin IS a good coach. You can't deny him that.

Yup, this confirms it. Hello, Clay. Glad you could join us here on VolNation.

The "effort" of some of our players had a lot do with Vanderbilt's win over us. Don't be fooled. The game they played against Kentucky beats Vandy too. Easily.

Agreed. I wouldn't hire a coach based on his ability to crush a Doofus lead team.

Can't stand Travis, but I'm good with the comparison if he gave Franklin some props. Can't see what's wrong with that. The man deserves it! I never said he was right for UT, although I do believe he will succeed wherever he goes. The man deserves credit for his accomplishments and is as good as most of the candidates people are mentioning. At the very least, Arkansas ought to be banging on his door right now.

Franklin's team beat us way worse than South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi State, Florida and Missouri. How can you ignore that?

What would really be bad, would be for us to loose out on some of these big name coaches and turn down Franklin, and then he goes to someplace like Arkansas and wins a NC. I know that may seem far fetched, but if we still sucked and another team got him and they won big, many on here would complain about not getting him when we had the chance. Guarantee it
