Why not Franklin?

Glad you brought up 2011 losses. Strong lost to

Marshall
FIU
Cincy
Pittsburg
North Carolina
NC state.

Franklin have a loss as bad as FIU?? How about Marshall??

Those are some bad losses. He has had very young teams, and teams with little to no talent. Vandy has had an older roster, and more talented team and that isn't debateable.

Strong has won big as a DC in the SEC. Franklin has done nothing but be the tallest midgit this year.

If we are so down that we have to hirea hype man as a coach I will be concerned. Strong goes about his business as a professional. I would be willing to bet the house 80% of ADs take Strong over Franklin.

Strong has much better resume as assistant. Franklin has done more as HC and his recruiting has been remarkable as HC. If you think one is a quality candidate you had to agree both are worth consideration.

I'm not advocating the hiring of Franklin but he's the football version of Bruce Pearl. Just about all UT fans loved Pearl while the rest of the league hated him and UT fans loved that as well.

What would UT's 2012 record be if Franklin had been the coach? You can't know for sure but I'd say UT would already have 8 wins.

Who did he beat with a winning record? Nobody..Ole Miss was right at. 500

No I don't agree both should be considered. I don't want our school represented by Lane Kiffin lite. Strong has been linked to many jobs over the past few years. Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas. Franklin has been linked to UNC, NC State, and Arkansas (I personally don't think Arky wants him, because he would jump for that). Apparently all of those guys haven't been hit with the pixie dust yet because he comes up for second tier jobs, while Strong comes up for premier jobs.

Recruiting to Vandy is easier than it is to Louisville. Big city, SEC, early playing time, education. I doubt you have watched a Louisville game this year either. They aren't a talented team.

You don't like him because of his brashness and that's fine but he certainly deserves to be mentioned with the likes of strong when jobs come open.

Since when has recruiting to vandy been easy??? NEVER

Certainly not top 15 easy

You are not going to be able to talk with the crazies and that is what they are. They have no common sense or understanding of what is involved.

Let's look at some facts:

Since Franklin arrived at Vandy, there are win less against ranked teams (same as before).

Since Franklin arrived at Vandy, they are 2-6, and 4-4 in the SEC (6-10). While that looks impressive on it's face, realize that over that same span UT played a total of 10 ranked SEC teams, Vandy played 6.

In this same time period (2 years), by my count UT has beaten 4 teams with winning records (NCSU, Cincy, Montana and Vandy). Vandy has only beaten 2 (Wake Forest ('11), Ole Miss ('12)).

I understand that Vandy and Franklin are making a ton of noise, but I don't see it translating to real results. Is Franklin getting the Commodores to play better than they have historically, yes. On paper, you see Vandy beating Auburn, Tennessee and going bowling and think..man what a great job. Then you see that Auburn and Tennessee are at almost historical lows for their programs.

It appears the further I dig into this, that Vandy is "All hat, no cattle" but Franklin is certainly winning games against teams with better talent. Those more talented teams are simply awful.

Why are you comparing Vandy to UT? We need to look at Vandy and the job Franklin is doing there which is close to unprecedented in my lifetime and ask ourselves which coaches on our board could have done better at Vandy. Then we have to try to guess how much more he could do with UT's budget, facilities, fan base, etc.

bullseye!!!

NC State approached Franklin about their opening but he declined.

He must have something bigger on the hook.

I figured franklin would land at NC State. He would do well there. As stated above, he must have bigger plans.

Lots of us made that argument with Dooley, and it didn't translate. He won 8 games at La. Tech, remember?? We don't need an up-and-comer, we need someone who's name means something to kids. Franklin is a flash in the pan, nothing more. I can't believe people really think he's this great coach.

You are delusional if you believe that hogwash. The guys is a great recruiter, a master motivator, and a solid coach with a very good staff. He would raise our program to a championship level quickly.

Completely understand your point. Just pointing out that comparing Vandy's schedule to our schedule makes no sense. Not a lot of people could do what he has done at Vandy, IMO. For every Spurrier at Duke (which IMO is where Franklin is at this point in his career) there are probably hundreds of Dooley's. Very few turn out to be Spurrier I understand that.

Let me also throw this out there. If Dooley had been at Vandy the past three years do you think Vandy would be having even 10% of the success they are having? I don't which is why I think Franklin is 10 times the coach. Again just my opinion. I think we can and should go better but I've also heard a dozen or more names thrown out there that are worse IMO.

Take away his DC, and Vandy is trash. Shoop will be hired away from Vandy in the offseason, IMO, and they will sink back into mediocre land, where they are from.

There is always another coach in postion to step up. Franklin is not just a rising star. Franklin is a rising superstar.

You do realize that Franklin has beaten NO ONE of any substance, and has never beaten a team that finished with a winning record, while he's been at Vandy, right??

No need to post this. Doesn't matter to the Franklin followers. Kool aid is already digested.

Franklin is not playing. He is coaching a team that plays the teams on his schedule. That is all that he can do.

If you recall, Fulmer made his hay beating bad Kentucky, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt teams. They were on the schedule and thaere is nothing you can do but play them and win.

We played some bad teams and could not beat them this season. Franklin is the real deal.
