Why is it that a fired HC doesn't get many second chances?

Add Phillip Fulmer to that list

Fulmer never was head coach at another P5 program after getting fired from Tennessee and he wasn't a P5 head coach before getting the Tennessee job.

To be completely transparent as my list seems to have been misconstrued.......

Watson Brown- Austin Peay, Cincinnatti, Rice, Vanderbilt, UAB
Tommy Tuberville- Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas Tech, Cincinnati
Les Miles- Oklahoma State, LSU, Kansas
Steve Sloan- Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Duke
Ron Zook- Florida, Illinois
Danny Ford- Clemson, Arkansas
Bill Curry- Georgia Tech, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia State
Ken Hatfield- Air Force, Arkansas, Clemson, Rice

This is not an all inclusive list. This is 5 minutes at lunchtime to get above 4 that the O.P. speculated on. 8 is more than 4.
Also, I recognize and acknowledge that some of the schools in this new and improved list, with an assist from Google, includes schools that are not P5 schools. Furthermore, I shall be indemnified and held harmless for including schools that said head coach left hanging while he pursued greener pastures. Watson Brown is a stretch perhaps. If I really thought about it long and hard and stayed up late working on it, I could probably come up with a much better list, but................Naaaaah.
And I have no idea what GVF was reading into my first list or really the difference in 1 in 4 and 1 of 4. That's a .250 batting average either way by my Math.

Carry on.
