Why is it so gloom and doom around here lately?

That's the spirit. You do realize that not all "mediocrity" is created or defined the same? It's true that your program has been able to take the "mediocre" concept to new depth unheard in your own tradition. As an outsider, I'm still staying realistic. I certainly understand that it's going to continue to take a lot of discombobulation among divided entities in the land of orange to keep this perfect storm alive.

Thought for the day:

Tennessee’s longest active losing streak is against the Crimson Tide. It began in coach Nick Saban’s first season (2007) and has grown to 11 games.

Six of those losses have been by 31 or more points.

Thank you for explaining sucking in such vivid detail. I’m aight.

Yeah, Butchna, you are old and dying and things have passed you by. Did you ever think of that? Huh?

Yeah most life spans end at 50. Read that on here.

Don't you think it is possible that if you wait for the truth (and wisdom) to be so obvious, you might be an old man or dead before you see it? Then you realize you've wasted your whole life waiting, instead of seeking and searching out wisdom and truth. Alas, it's too late, and the vapor that is your life, has vanished and all that's left is regret.

Been at the bath salts again, aintcha? :)

Almost all of those kids he was recruiting were Elite prospects. Also, they went to programs that had already had a history of winning and a sure thing.

However, we did get JJ Peterson who Alabama was recruiting hard. As for all the other elite prospects why would they come to Tennessee after such a terrible year, heck the coaching staff wasn't even completely formed by the time the early recruiting period ended.

So... Again there were too many things going against Pruitt at that time.

Today we are possibly going to receive commitments from 2 - 4 star recruits so I think your point is invalid. Pruitt and Co are doing an excellent job of recruiting with the new staff in place.

If he can pull those two recruits today, it would be a nice start, but my point cannot be made invalid till the ink is on the paper.

After watching the spring game and the NFL draft I dont see how any sane person can expect next year to be any better than 6-6. Playoffs, playoffs, I just hope we can win a fing SEC game for a change. I have almost lost interest : a person can only take so much irritation and disappointment without withdrawing from the source. I would like to point out that I was sure Butch was NOT the answer when hired. A lot of these players seem to lack pride in wearing the Orange. If they dont care- why should I care?

In my opinion, the only Vol that will stick with a team is Gaulden. Kelly and MacKenzie are not NFL material . i hope that this draft puts to rest the myth that Butch is a great recruiter . He had one good year and never cracked the top ten at years end. The man was clearly over matched in the SEC.

Touché Sir. Touché.

Edit: Well at least we got Morris to Commit. Was hoping there would be a surprise commit by Pappoe. Can't win them all...

Depends on whether I have had my meds or not :crazy:

I am leaning pretty pessimistic with this experiment though.

First time head coach hired by the guy who gave us the Clawfense and couldn't land another major college position in the past 10 seasons.

Plenty of reason to think it may be a bumpy ride.

Every year is a bumpy ride. Even 98 was a bumpy ride.

And my main concern for the guy who gave us the Clawfense is him and his lawyer staying outta Shoney's.

Following up the worst season in Vol history, 2018 looms to be not much better, so that's why it's so doom and gloom around here:popcorn:

still:
Go Vols

Doom and gloom? No. Personally, I am already starting in a better place this season. My stress levels for football are at all time lows. I might even be able to watch a whole game without turning it off and coming here to just read the game day thread play by play.

Season is already a winning one. Before it even starts we will all be able to rest easy. The team will look infinitely better this year, and peace and tranquility will reign.

All this because there won't be a stupid @$$ trashcan being lifted up on the sidelines. I'm hoping for 6 wins. No trashcan is one of those wins. GBO!

Lol, forgot about the trash can. I’m not as optimistic, I only see maybe 4 wins with our lack of proven depth on both lines and a huge ? at QB. Outside of our starting 5 on o line we aren’t good. Hope I’m wrong. If we win six and go 🎳, party time

Doom and gloom? Well, we're coming off the worst season in school history, most of the stars from last year have moved on, and we have a new coach who, while promising, is unproven as a head coach.

Combine all that with big ole dose of fatigue from three previous disastrous coaching hires, a bunch of off the field turmoil from each of those coach's tenures, and the absolute chaos of the last coaching search.

Not to mention, Phil may be all in on doing a good job as AD (no doubts there), but he is unproven in the role as well.

I have high hopes for Pruitt, but we've been burned so many times now, we've come to expect it. CJP deserves his shot and we're going to have to give him several years before we really know what we have. But, blind faith is in short supply for Vol fans, and rightfully so.

Realistically, making a bowl next year would be a major victory and we're all tired of rebuilding. As the season nears, most of us will get on board and be predicting 10-2. But for now, doom and gloom rules the day. That's just where we are.

4-8 season, 0-8 in the SEC with losses to Mizzou, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and SC in 2017. Two straight loses to Vandy!!!

It's hard to be positive for 2018 with new coaches, schemes, and alot of questions on both sides of the ball with no real answer at QB and CB.

Seven wins or more with a a bowl game would be a successful season for the Vols.

This year is going to be rough. Based on the head coach himself, the lazy/quitter mentality remains. It takes longer than 1 off-season to turn around a team as bad as we were.

Was hoping for total team born again hard, but I’m wondering if a couple of seasons may have to pass before the unclean teachings of the bricklayer are unknown.

You think this is gloom and doom?? May-August are the last four months where we know with certainty that the team won't be running up their losing streak. This is like doing yoga after ingesting barbiturates.

4-8 and 0-8 that’s why although I see a big improvement this season to 5-7 1-7. Pruitt will get a nice raise for that maybe coach of the year.
