Why is it so gloom and doom around here lately?

Just not sold on Pruitt, has no HC experience, his recruiting has been sub par and he does not engage fans. I think fans are tired of terrible Tennessee football with all the drama, HC changes, AD changes and being dominated by all our rivals including Vanderbilt. Most pundits think it could be a 3-5 year rebuild before UT competes in the East, do fans have that much patience after living through the past 10+ years of mediocrity?

Pruitt's recruiting is sub par? Is this based off of having basically one week before an early signing period after the biggest football HC search debacle ever.... And the worst season we have ever had?

You’re aware of your own experience. Mine varies. Most Bama or UGA fans I encounter love the exchange. Both of those fanbases experienced a long stretch of like mediocrity. I’m not sure if you need Vol fans to shut down and curl into the fetal position in order to not come off as “blindly optimistic”. If so, you’re never going to be happy.

No, but it helps if Vol fans are realistic and not turning a blind eye to mediocrity like the Butch and Dooley years. “He just needs more time” we heard constantly for both of them. Fans need to call out the issues quickly so we don’t keep lying to ourselves that this next guy is THE GUY.

Are there any issues yet? I don’t think so but fans should be vocal with constructive criticism when it’s time, and that doesn’t make them a lesser fan.

Cool You do you. I’ll go with my lifetime regime.

What’s that plan? I’m open to change.

Wait for reality to happen. It does anyway. When the coach truly fails, we know. It’s almost May and we haven’t signed a 5 star yet? Realize NO ONE has. Calling out a coach on a message board has the same effect as it did when it was Letters To The Editor. Not a damn any! Express concerns, second guess, kick your dog, hold your breath...same effect. Fans that think what they post holds sway more than what Fulmer sees? Enjoy the delusion. :good!:

So true. I haven't read anything about any recruits bad mouthing Tennessee, so far I've only seen positive things about this coaching staff and it's nonstop interaction with recruits they really want. Basically all of the things I have read seem to put Tennessee in a way better place as far as recruiting goes. Guess it's just a wait and see game to see who we end up recruiting. Plenty of 5 stars out there that I am sure Pruitt and Co. are whispering sweet tunes to. 😝 Tennessee has one of the best pitches to any recruit... Come to Tennessee and you can possibly have immediate playing time.

When he fails at a critical playtime call or coaching moment, we’ll talk about it. When it means HE’s a failure? We’ll know that’s why he’s being fired. Truth happens on it’s own timeline.

Doesn't take much to Amaze you.

I get the general feeling most are just excited about everything, including but not "simply because" he's a straight shooter.

Is Jeremy Pruitt the type of coach you want to have and then turn in an underachieving performance? I would rather disappoint Darth Vader.

How many of the great seasons were predicted by us. Never saw 85 coming, didn't think 89 was possible after 88. Were we expecting Fulmer to emerge as a coaching candidate when we weren't even looking for one? We all thought 97 was going to be our year when our legendary qb returned for his senior season, only to reach the promised land the next season, after determining that it wasn't a possibility. Even then we thought the only hope for a decent season was on Jamal Lewis' shoulders, if we lose him the season would be shot.

So what do we really know? The only thing I know and I don't know how, is that the next great season is going to hit us when we don't expect it. It probably won't make any sense either. It's the kind of season they named Cinderella and she's long over due now.

I see from my lofty point in Texas that you apply “most” to what you’ve read from a FEW on a message board. Hard to argue with that science. I’m going to use your technique. The VAST MAJORITY of this board is aware of the talent situation of UGA, Bama et al. :hi:

Butchna I'd say your perch in Texas is a bit loftier than mine... at least, a few 100 clicks closer to the High Plains country which I traversed a dozen times since 2011 (and loved it) in my trusty old F-150 going to a former client plant near Amarillo. But it does afford a view to the SEC from some remove.

Well, the fans have a little more power than they used to just look at Coaching Search 2017. I can get on board with the rest methinks.

Amazed at how much faith people are putting in Pruitt simply because he’s a “straight shooter”

Go back and read the Butch Jones threads....remember teams were gonna get Butch Slapped??? How about Butch Stones. It’s a never ending cycle of optimism until it doesn’t work out. I hope JP does a good job but I’ll hold off for a few years before putting any real faith in him

Feel like a broken record saying this, but look at the schedule. College football prognosticating is all about the schedule.

IMO, there are 3 gimmies:

ETSU
UTEP
Charlotte

There are 3 games we should probably win:

Kentucky
Missouri
at Vandy

That's 6 wins and a bowl right there. Anything beyond that is gravy. A win at home against Florida or a win on the road against South Carolina would be huge; I think those are more likely than beating West Virginia.

Missouri beats us.

Didn’t pick any candidates. Stopped one from being hired discouraged another. Butch had to completely fail before he was fired.

That's the spirit. You do realize that not all "mediocrity" is created or defined the same? It's true that your program has been able to take the "mediocre" concept to new depth unheard in your own tradition. As an outsider, I'm still staying realistic. I certainly understand that it's going to continue to take a lot of discombobulation among divided entities in the land of orange to keep this perfect storm alive.

Thought for the day:

Tennessee’s longest active losing streak is against the Crimson Tide. It began in coach Nick Saban’s first season (2007) and has grown to 11 games.

Six of those losses have been by 31 or more points.

Don't you think it is possible that if you wait for the truth (and wisdom) to be so obvious, you might be an old man or dead before you see it? Then you realize you've wasted your whole life waiting, instead of seeking and searching out wisdom and truth. Alas, it's too late, and the vapor that is your life, has vanished and all that's left is regret.

Pruitt was recruiting most of the 2018 players he whiffed on before he took the reigns of TN, he could not convince any of them to take a chance on him and his new program. Early signing period changes the recruiting game and it is very important to get recruits locked down early and hold on to them before December. Doesnt seem to be happening yet for Pruitt and staff, hope he can turn it around.

Yeah, Butchna, you are old and dying and things have passed you by. Did you ever think of that? Huh?

Why the gloom? Because the last time TN won an SEC championship I was a middle aged man. This year I can get on medicare. I'm running out of time bub:devilsmoke:

Almost all of those kids he was recruiting were Elite prospects. Also, they went to programs that had already had a history of winning and a sure thing.

However, we did get JJ Peterson who Alabama was recruiting hard. As for all the other elite prospects why would they come to Tennessee after such a terrible year, heck the coaching staff wasn't even completely formed by the time the early recruiting period ended.

So... Again there were too many things going against Pruitt at that time.

Today we are possibly going to receive commitments from 2 - 4 star recruits so I think your point is invalid. Pruitt and Co are doing an excellent job of recruiting with the new staff in place.
