I don't doubt that Heupel could call plays just as well as Golesh, but what worries me is that we might not have as good of a set of eyes in the booth that can spot opportunities to score on defenses like Golesh could. I think that aspect of Golesh is what made our offense elite and why he quickly got poached for a head coaching job. Heupel knows all the plays and is a good player but he isn't in the booth and won't be able to see what Golesh saw up there and who knows if the new guy will be able to read defenses that fast and scheme ways to score on the fly. I think that will be hard to replicate with any new hire and for that reason I fully expect us to take a step back offensively next year.

I think Tennessee will survive and there wont be much of a drop off on offense if any.

If the offense takes a step back next year it will be due to Milton being inconsistent and stalling drives. I think there are plenty of coaches that will be able to replicate what Golesh did under CJH’s guidance. He put up points before Golesh and will continue to do it after his departure.

It took Golesh and the offense a season to really get things moving consistently, so next year will probably be a lot like 2021 if Milton plays average.

Milton can be good, really good if he can get it going.Remember what Tee did after Peyton.Same thing coming( i hope)
We will all know what Milton will be after the orange bowl. No excuses about rain or cold, this is his opportunity. If he looks the same as he has this staff needs to be finding a starter for next season.

Somebody will be up in the booth for the bowl game and I’m sure they will do fine.

But in the long term, the right hire will also bring in fresh perspective and new wrinkles of their own.

I know we are used to downward trends when we lose staff, but CJH is on a mission and will use this as a chance to upgrade the staff.

JH’s offensive strategy of getting the matchups he wants and then keeping it that way with our speed offense won’t be disrupted by coaching changes.

It’s all about execution by the players. Average play doesn’t go 10-2. JM will ball out in the bowl game and then carry that momentum into next season.

We still need our defense to get 2 or 3 stops(Forcing a FG counts for 1/2 a stop.) per half. Getting 1 out of 10 will never be good enough.

The biggest thing we lose with Golesh is well everything he will be hard to replace but mainly it's recruiting. He was a beastly recruiter. He was also the TE coach which creates a weird situation. Do you elevate someone internally to OC and hire a TE coach? Or do you hire and OC that's a TE coach? Or maybe we have someone on staff we can move to TEs and hire an OC to cover their position group.

TEs in this offense didn't have a lot of flashy stats but they were heavily involved in the success of this offense. Can't was more obvious with his versatility. Jacob Warren was also involved springing guys on big plays. I'd be tickled to death of warren decided to use his COVID year. Golesh will be missed but I think we will survive it all with the right hire. I'm pretty sure Huepel already has a short list it's not like this is a huge surprise that Golesh might leave.

Also how many GA's and QC's go with him? Those are very underrated members of the staff and replacing them might be the harder part. I don't think we lose on field coaches to USF outside of Golesh but I bet he takes some support staff with him and that should be expected. Those are the guys that actually spend the most real time with players in a lot of cases.

Will be interesting. I like Golesh and good for him. He has pretty much been w JH for awhile now. It’s JH driving the bus but Golesh knew his system well. Was hoping to hold on to him one more year. Probably good spot for Golesh. If he’s good as I think he is, he won’t be there long.

Halzle has also been together with CJH for 14 years I believe is what I read on him .

I am far, Far, FAR more concerned with Milton's ability to read defenses and make plays than I am whoever CJH decides to replace Golesh with in the booth.

I certainly would have preferred for USF to wait after bowl season to hire him away, but here we are.

If it was the playoff I'd agree, but a bowl game is about seeing talent that will be here next year in bigger roles and the three weeks of practice, and with early signing approaching I'm sure USF wanted to get their man in place.

Listen, this is going to be a constant here if we have the kind of success we are hoping for with Heupel, so we might as well get used to it. I'd be very surprised if Heupel wasn't fully anticipating this and hasn't already got some things in the fire.

Oh I agree 100%, just stating my selfish want lol.

I don’t doubt that Golesh was a good play caller or that he worked well with heupel. I think that much is evident. But make no mistake about it…Golesh was calling the plays that heupel installed. Heupel is essentially the oc. He’s on his headset communicating the entire time the offense is on the field. Some coaches are defensive minded. So are offensive. And some are just overall program managers etc. Our head coach is an offensive guru. Plain and simple. We should never worry about an offensive coach leaving. If the defense were doing well amd a coordinator took another job there would be some cause for concern. But fortunately (or unfortunately)…that’s not in play at this time. Truthfully…I wouldn’t mind if another program came along and took banks off our hands. Lol

Heupel has put together a good staff that has worked out far better than Pruitts staff which should have been world beaters but they were duds, I think Heupel has a good handle on things, the next guy could be better than Golesh too, we'll see.
